1 Apr 1918- The Royal Air Force and Women's Royal Air Force are formed.

Some say this is how the custom of practical jokes on this day came about, immortalised by the often heard DI and PTI phrase "If you can't take a joke you shouldn't have joined"

Happy Birthday boys and girls, here's to many more:ok:

........here's to many more.......
Six more. If you're lucky. Then, by default, any remaining assets revert to the previous owners.

It's only fair.

Fair enough - the pongoes can have all their Sopwith Camels back and the sailors can collect their Felixstowe flying boats ;)

In terms of capability, that's a good descriptor of where things currently stand.

Indeed, the Royal Air Force was formed. Formed by merging the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air service. So how come the Navy and the Army still have aeroplanes? :E

And, of course, the Royal Canadian Air Force was formed on 1st April 1924 and the Royal New Zealand Air Force on 1st April 1937, so Happy Birthday there too. :ok:

If the aircraft are not under warranty, you can keep them! The original owners can have the budget instead; if we sort out their overmanning, we will be rich!!!!:ok:

Assuming that there will still be an RAF in six years time, what do you think would be an appropriate celebration? Perhaps a massive parade of all currently available members, plus the tens of thousands who have previously served. En-mass we could let the Govt know who they are dealing with should they choose to decimate it further. :ok:

It's just a great shame that this practical joke didn't finish at midday like it should have!

You mean the Red Arrows? Everyone else will be manning the car park.

Include the Air Cadets in the march-past, less those rattling collecting tins and directing traffic, at your peril, as they'll well out-number the regulars.
