Is it true that when looking at the Burj al Arab from the sea at certain times of the day that a 123m cross can be seen?
Or is this just an internet hoax?

This phenomenon, a cross seen on the Fernsheturm in Berlin, was known as 'The Pope's Revenge'. Something similar?

This was the view earlier and then the tennis court area which was supposed to be for balancing the building in strong winds (or something) was reduced

I thought the cross bar was the helipad?

I thought the cross bar was the helipad?

Nope - that's the sky bar and a restaurant (forget the name). Helipad is on the other side (behind, as viewed in this picture).

The 'Cross' portion of the structure (main lift shaft riser and Sky Bar platform) used to be lit up at night, so it clearly resembled a cross - night and day. After complaints were made, the lights were never used again.

There were rumours circulating circa 2001 and 2002 that a Saudi national of immense wealth offered to buy the building with the aim of destroying it and building a new hotel in its place, because of the Christian connotations of the cross...

FYI - the Sky Bar is the longest single cantilevered supported span structure at roughly 280 meters above the ground. The total height of the structure is (I believe) 321 meters...

Another one : This Star of David is supposedly visible on the roof of the Iran Air HQ in Tehran, which was built by Israelis in the days when the Pahlavi regime and Israel were buddies.
