Several years ago, Congress mandated that ALL -121 pilots have an ATP. That means that ALL new FOs hired by Delta, Alaska, American Eagle, USA Jet, etc., etc. have a full ATP (the US does not have frozen ATPLs).
Currently, an ATP requires 1500 TT plus a bunch of other requirements.
Congress mandate more requirements be added to the ATP, but left the door open as far as flight hours go.
The FAA has just released their Total Time requirements:
1500 hours for a standard applicant.
1000 hours for a graduate of a 4-year aviation degree program.
750 hours for a graduate of a military flight school program.
The ATP requirement for ALL US -121 Airline Pilot positions goes into effect 1 AUG 2013.
