Guys,

anybody heard much about this mob in terms of min requirements etc, or is it likely to be similar to the rest of the east coast? (1000 hours?) I assume most of the current pilots are from GSL Marree.

You can ring them to obtain that information. That's what I did.
"Hey, I'm looking for a job, do you employ first timers and what sup with the Whitsundays op?"

"If you wanna work for GSL you need not have bare minimums and be happy to go and slog it out at lake Eyre first before getting close to the Whitsundays."

No worries.

What do they operate in the Whitsundays?

Were they still even operating at Lake Eyre at the end of the last season? I heard hat they got kicked out of the pub so I wonder if they will even be back and where they will operate from next season?

Ejector- Airvans im fairly sure.

XXX- oh really? so they operate a seasonal ONLY service down there? Nothing indicated on their webpage to say they wont be. What season do they usually fly in, wet or dry?

Ben - AFAIK they operate the Dry up there.

Does anyone know if they are moving the floaties up to the Whitsundays or just keeping them in Maree?

Surely the floats wouldn't be at Marree still? Hasn't flying all finished up there?

Floats on a AirVan?

Cool :ok:

The floats are on the 206, not an Airvan sorry.

Lake Eyre is seasonal. Generally people/tourists only visit there when there is water in it.

Correct, the Airvans in the Whitsundays are not on floats. Just reg airvans for scenics and charter out to islands I assume.

Increased MTOW, floats for GA8 | Australian Aviation Magazine (http://australianaviation.com.au/2011/03/increased-mtow-floats-for-ga8/)

The first 10 customers are being offered 50 per cent off the normal deposit for a GA8 Airvan on floats, with delivery in 2012.

An intesting incentive...

I can't find any real info on the GA8 floatie, how much useable load have you got to play with once the Wip's are strapped to it? And how much is the a new Airvan with floats worth?

A lot more power would be need to make it a good performer off the water.

The Turbo model would go ok and MTOW might possibly drop by a couple of pax maybe at most from MTOW so it should get off ok.

I totally agree, I hope it doesn't get off like a C206 though. To have water performance like a beaver, it will 99% need more grunt than that, however, my experience with the guys at Gipsland, when operators ask for it, they are more than able to deliver. :O:ok:
