This is coming up for you Victorian folk and those with supersonic Retard Vehicles from elsewhere...

Tyabb Airshow 2012 (http://tyabbairshow.com.au/)

I'm thinking of flying down at 0' AGL. Will I be disappointed?

Weather forecast isn't all that bad by the look of it. Funny how when the weather is off we still drive to an AIRshow hoping that it will be still on :-)

The last line in the first post is rather silly unless you really enjoy restraining stock fences. Ask me how I know. Put the wheels at 4' and you can put her on auto.

The Airshow is on. I'm told the grass areas are firm & good. The weather is forecast to lift to a 3,500 ft base by about 10am. This is an event that raises money for local charities. Its worth the effort to come. There is a lot of good stuff planned because its the 50th anniversary of the airport.

Weather fined up just in time! Bit of a cross wind.
Good show although missed the last hour. Did the Roulettes and Sabre appear?
Got a first glimpse of the Cessna 162 Skycatcher. They look more home built than I thought they would be.
Matt Hall was a stand out. I'm not sure how close he got to the trees and the cement silo but it looked close. Love his use of the Iron Eagle movie sooundtrack.
Now what is it with those photogragher blokes with the hat pins and massive lenses? One (with tripod) decided to plonk himself in front of a family who were sitting nicely on a blanket blocking their view. When the Dad came back from the Mr Whippy, he told said photo man to piss off. The look of photog man was one of "hey I have more rights to be here than you". He did move on though. Don't get it. The view is the same 5 metres back and you wouldn't be in anyones way.
There appear to be more and more photographers with massive cameras at airshows these days.
Rant off!
A good show and hats off to the organises.

Yes it was a great show and Matt Hall's flying was superb. Well done!

I don't have a problem with the photographers with big lenses, as long as they post some of their work here or in the photos thread above.

Yeh top effort, was really happy for the Tyabb guys, must have been a hard week with the weather leading up to the day, and yeh ,the crosswind really gave the tailwheel guys a workout!

My takeaways.

Didn't expect to see 4 x Skycatchers in the one place at the one time. They have two of them there online, 1 x GA and 1 x RAA. You have to be a member to hire them out.

Some people have too much money to the point that it is embarrasing for people that don't. One in particular has 1 x replica Spitfire, 3 x scale Mustangs, 1 x R22, 3 x Yak's including 1 Yak 9 and to top it off he parked his Ferrari in the hangar to put on show. That is simply not fair!!!!

Matt Hall was good and used the tree-line to add to his display appeal by flying below it, thus giving the impression of pending disaster. That's the sort of spectacular that people come for.

I left a little early however I didn't see any pyrotechnics which we normally see at Tyabb.

... That is simply not fair!!!!

I see the Australian green-eyed monster (Bunyip?) is still alive an well. When are we going to be honest about our national motives and introduce a proper envy tax?

Good luck to whoever it was and may they keep on buying special toys so the artisans of the world can keep making them.

XXX you will just have to learn to accept that he IS better than you:rolleyes::hmm::ugh:

BTW I have sat next to that individual and his wife at dinner and they are nice people. He started his working life as an abalone diver and then ran his own successful (non related) business for decades. He's earned the toys.

Did the late Col Pay have a banner in his hanger that read:
"He who dies with the most toys wins"?
Not sure if it was Col but it was someone in aviation.

To make us lesser likes feel better you can always change it to:
"He who dies with the most toys still dies".

Does that Leopard Yak work? I've never seen it in the air. Oh and it's lucky he has mates to help get his "9" out the mud. hehe.

He's earned the toys
That's right Chuckles. Have known them for years, great people, I just wasn't naming names. I believe he still has Abalone licences and good on him, he's doing well. You are right though, the "other" business, completely un-related. What impresses me too is that as far as I know, for every "real" aircraft he has, he has an exact replica in the form of a remote-controlled model. Most impressive, I really don't know where he finds the time.

Does that Leopard Yak work?

Pussy I think they call it.... yes it does but haven't seen it out much either.

I was impressed by the newer of the scale Mustangs on display. 600hp on a 500 cubic inch Chevy.

you will just have to learn to accept that he IS better than you

Indeed I have come to accept that on many occasions in life, particularly when hanging around airports.

Don't suppose you have any pics of Winjeel 40 that's poking her nose into the right of frame in your first pic?
