If you're attending the 80 Sqn dinner in a couple of weeks please be aware that Flg Off Murray Adams RAAF aged 92 will be making the trip from Australia.
Murray is still full of beans and drives his car.
Flew Tomahawks and Hurricanes with 250 Sqn and Spitfires and Tempests with 80 Sqn. Flew as a combat pilot for four years straight....
Best flight he said was leading the Tempest Wing on a mission as a Flg Off after the bosses x 2 went unserviceable....

We lost Murray today. He passed away peacefully at the Gold Coast south of Brisbane aged 96. MID and French Legion of Honour.

Thanks for the notice, TBM.
I assume he was the 'Bay' Adams mentioned in Pierre Closterman's The Big Show as one of only two survivors from their last raid.
I'm glad he had a good innings and a peaceful end.
I'll raise a glass tonight.

No Murray is not "Bay" Adams although he flew with he and Pierre. "Bay" was AVM John Adams RAAF CBE, DFC, AFC who flew in three wars. WW2 [RAF 3 and 180 Sqns]/Korea/Vietnam...
He was my boss at one stage - a finer chap you would ever meet

"Bay" Adams of 3 SQN RAF (mentioned in "The Big Show") once related the tale when they were flying Tempests in a large Wing gaggle over Kiel to mark the end of the War.
His engine seized and had to put it down in a field. Good landing, unstrapped and climbed out. He saw a Brit army officer at the side of the field beside his jeep. He motioned to the army chap to come over, but the pongo didn't budge.
"Bugger me" said Bay, carried over his parachute pack to where the soldier was with his jeep.
"You could have come over to pick me up, mate" said Bay.
"My dear chap, well I couldn't really" replied the brown job. "You've just walked through a minefield!"

Bay once regaled me with stories of the 'accommodating' Danish blondes. He said they made WW2 worthwhile!
