Nigeria's civil aviation authority accepts foreign registration for privately operated aircraft, some say because Nigerian reg will ruin the pedigree of such aircraft.
But must NCAA extend the privilege to commercial planes too? Airliners.com shows a Lear 45 flown by "Prime Air Service", and it spots a foreign reg.
It's time NCAA stood up for Nigeria's interests in the operation of aircraft in Nigeria. Afteral, Prime Air is Nigeria to make money. It is not too much to ask its owners to spot Nigerian registrations. If Nigerian money is good enough for them, Nigerian conditions should be good enough for them too. And at any rate, Nigeria does need the income that is earned from local registrations :)

If Nigerian Aviation could run their own show without foreign aircraft, management and crew then you might have an argument. Until then you best zip it!

Indeed Dash, put it on the Nigerian registry and your aircraft is worth less and costs more to insure... Now that's what I call great business sense not!:ugh:

dash200,

You do understand Prime Air is wet leasing the lears, makes no business sense to register the aircrafts and train the crews.
Understand your point, but look at the big picture.

To operate as a foreign entity in Nigeria costs a lot more than to operate as indigenous, through increased tax levels and the extra fees gained from all the hoops businesses need to go through should more than compensate you for the irritation of having someone else do for you what you can't adequately do for yourself.:ok:

The solution is simple.
When Nigeria can eliminate corruption and establish a CAA with a safety regime as good as the UK CAA and the FAA and prove this to the satisfaction of the world then they will be trusted.
Until they can achieve this they will remain a joke.

Dash200,

Just what Nigeria needs, a 25 year old aviation expert. I can see that you have your finger on the pulse of Nigerian aviation..."NOT"! Being foreign registered in Nigeria you have to jump through more hoops than a bear in a Russian circus. Most parts of the "registration" process for foreign registered aircraft to operate in Nigeria domestically boarders on...shall I say it "Corrupt". Just so long as the "NCAA Inspectors" get to have their free trip abroad is all that really matters, dosen't it?

NCAA inspecting maintenance facilities in Europe and the USA, now that's called keeping them honest....right?

AtthePNR, man, you've been watching too much of Anderson Cooper. Well expressed point though :D.

AtthePNR, what an apt name for the level of regulation witnessed from the NCAA; NCAA seems to have passed the point of no return when from the grapevine, they watch eagle-eyed whilst a foremost holder of an AOC issued by them imports in excess of three dozen flight crew members for two wide-bodied machines about to join its register.

Guys, forget the foreign registered machines operating in Naija, look at the locals being stifled out of getting the chance to fly wide-bodied machines on their own country's register, enough said, eish!!!

Did anyone see the recent article from a Nigerian Immigration Service topshot expressing disgust at the abuse of Expatriate Quotas by indigenous & foreign companies?

Thanks all, for your comments.
Certainly, you mostly are closer to the industry than I am.
NaijaNinja, dont mind the Immigration guy and his griping about the flood of expatriates. If the Immigration Service were serious about enforcing the rules, they would, period.
And you know the interesting thing, the current DG NCAA is supposed to be a conscientious guy who even stood up to Aso Rock over the Bebi Airstrip issue. When he retires and the regular Joes take over, who knows what we're in for?
As for the pilots who have to stick to narrow bodies, well, God dey!

FYI, DG ain't much of a Che Guevara; what with his own hidden 'pp' beside the international terminal or is it the deal with the transatlantic carriers?

FAA Cat 1? Please!

Enough said for those who get the drift!
