Hello, I hold a FAA ATP with G200 type rating with 1,500 hrs in type and would like to convert and obtain the JAA/EASA license. I understand there are 11 to 14 exams to take but any guidance on software providers to study the material and where to take these test will be greatly appreciated. Do I need to sit in class and do ground training? Thanks.

You are not required to sit any ground school. You are allowed to self certify. However, when I did the distance learning via Bristol Ground School, there were several FAA ATP holders who chose to do all 14 exams in one sitting, and they only sat through one of the two 2-week brushup sessions. They basically chose to pick and choose which ground school subjects they wanted to sit through. You still have to do all 14 exams.

Also, if you wish to take your exams in the UK, there are 4 exam centres, one at Gatwick, Oxford, Glasgow, and Shuttleworth. They also have some exam centres abroad. Exams are held once a month usually.

In Spain, you can only take the exams now in Madrid, but whenever you want and it is on a computer. I donīt know about the other countries.
