Cool! Thanks for the heads up!
Arent EI letting crew go at LGW though ? Im surprised they arent offering them the option to join at Dublin!
Still its positive news and great for those who want to work as crew based in dublin !
Does anyone know how long it has been since EI last hired crew for a ROI base ? It must be a good few years at this stage! All the Dublin based crew seem to be in their 30's! hasnt been brand new crew in Dublin in a while! Or am i wrong ?

Very tempting job offer - does anyone know when this was posted on EI's website...? I'm 41 and living alone in MAN since 2002 but still kept my Irish passport, as I have all my family there - commuting to DUB from MAN would not be an issue but the police disclosure could be a problem as GMP no longer provide these - I do meet all the other reqs though

EISNN

If you read the posting more closely you'll notice that they say they are putting a panel together and it's headed under Future Recruitment. So from that point of view goodness knows when training or actual recruitment would start. Pals of mine in EI say there's meant to be a redundancy programme soon - to encourage longer serving staff to leave - but that could all be pie in the sky too.

I would imagine that LGW crew would be offered to transfer base if they wanted.

As for when they last recruited, they took on cabin crew last year for DUB and I don't think that they were all in their 20's. Some were in their 40's as far as I know.

As for ages there are a good few of them still in the their 20's. I know one who is 25. She started 5/6 years ago. But yes there are obviously crew in their 30's 40's and 50's - like many other 'former' national carriers/flag carriers.

@Irishmanc. was only posted this week. Not sure what day though.

Locker10a
8th Jan 2012, 22:18
Ohh i didnt know they hired last year!! Ya some of the best crew ive had the pleasure of flying with are the more senior crew at EI !

With regard to commuting from MAN it says you must live within 90mins of base! So you would need to live no more that 90mins from DUB !

EISNN
8th Jan 2012, 22:33
@Locker10a. dunno about the 90 mins thing. but I guess if that's what they want that's what they want. I don't think you'd have to have an address within 90 mins before you apply or do an interview. Get that bit sorted afterwards. ;)

Locker10a
8th Jan 2012, 22:48
ya you are right you can apply from anywhere in the world ! But they ask can you anwser yes to the following question -> " Are you capable of arriving within 90 minutes from your base when on reserve duty? "
So i persume that means you must live within 90mins of dublin airport so you can arrive within a certain time if you are on call!?!

EISNN
9th Jan 2012, 12:40
That would be the idea yes. With the infrastructure that's there it allows you to live in places outside DUB that are not as expensive to live. That said if you're from West Cork or Donegal for example you are not going to be able to commute from there.

Ad was posted on Friday I'm told.

Crew have to live 90 mins from Dublin. It is very difficult to commutte, and commutting from the UK would be very difficult, and expensive

12th Jan 2012, 22:40
Would it be possible to commute from Galway?

Locker10a
13th Jan 2012, 18:07
well unless you want to drive to dublin airport 4 or 5 days a week!
Depending on your roster you could be working short hall turn arounds 4 or 5 days in a row! Plus when on call you would have to be ready to be at the airport within 90 of getting a call to say you are needed to operate a flight!

Hello!

I've just found an offer with Aer Lingus. Has anybody applied already? I'm Polish, moving to Dublin in 2 weeks and I'm very curious if they might hire me. Studying at the university in London and turning 20 this year. Big fan of aviation - maybe Aer Lingus...?

johnrizzo2000
15th Jan 2012, 18:47
Its not impossible to commute from Galway, but not easy. Rosters can involve 6 days on, with some long days. Some early duties start at 4am, and some late duties finishing after 2am. Rest time between duties can be 12 hours, so I wouldnt advise commuting. Some crew do, after a few years, but they normally end up going part-time as it is tough.

The recruitment page, mentions that the vacancies are for a panel, so I'd be curious to see when they will train crew.

I would highly recommend people to apply. Its a very unique job, fantastic experience, and you get to work with a great group of people

Great thanks for that. Part time would be the dream but I'm sure thats not what they are looking for currently

Hi
Anyone knows how many crew are the looking to hire? I hear they will receive two A319s in March.
I don't live in Ireland but I would be really interested to see my chances there. Anybody knows details about salary and cost of living in the ROI?
Anyone here already applied?
:ok:

I think the ad hasn't closed yet. We might have to wait until it does to get a reply.

I'd love to know a few more things about the airline and the cabin crew position there.

Cheers

The advertisement states its for future careers in Aer Lingus and that ''We are currently looking to develop a panel of suitable candidates which may be progressed to the initial stage of the selection process should positions become available in our In-flight Services Department in Dublin''.

That may mean you may only have an interview when there is positions to fill, or they may interview you and put you on a panel.

Contracts are temporary, most likely for 6 months.

I've certainly decided to take a confident and positive step and have applied to Aer Lingus at DUB, from whom I am currently awaiting a reply, where after much detailed and in-depth discussions with store management, I have also recieved written assurances from my current employers that they will support me in my career change, including but not limited to, being permitted to take the required time off (even at short notice) to travel to Ireland for the purposes of attending any interviews at DUB - I'm willing to and am planning to relocate back home to Ireland if required and am saying so at any interviews, but ideally I plan to commute with other carriers from MAN - even if it is only a fixed-term contract, it should be good, if anything else, to get out of retail - it is possible that they may have a certain number of ready reserve crews, as well as the usual 90 mins call-out reserves - I'm a 41 years old "out" Irish gay male with over 20+ years retail experience and have enjoyed my time here in the UK, where I have lived in Manchester since 2002, but even allowing for the challenges in the Irish economy, perhaps it is the right time for me to move back home to Ireland

johnrizzo2000

Trying to commute will be very difficult. Days off can be Monday and Saturday one week, and you can work 6 days on before your days off.

I would never recommend anybody leave a permanent and secure job to become cabin crew. Aer lingus hasn't made people permanent in 5 years, and had continuously stated it wants seasonal workers

layla devine
25th Jan 2012, 14:30
Thanks for all the tips John.

I work part time, so seasonal work would be perfect for me :)

It does sound as if I, as an older applicant, have very little chance, if any, of being successful in changing careers to become cabin crew - given the fact that my current retail employer has always been rabidly opposed in every possible way to my unrealistic career change ambitions and has constantly attempted to demonstrate to me in every practical way that how and why I will never meet the requirements for the cabin crew role with any airline, because dreams can never be the reality of life, the new PM at our location based on the needs of the business has sent me on an occupational health assessment with the objective of actively dissuading me from changing careers at my age, while also taking certain undisclosed steps in co-operation with certain other bodies, to ensure that I am actively prevented from doing so on an ongoing basis - it is deemed as such in thier infinite wisdom and on a common sense basis, according to the needs of thier business, therefore I need to let go of this undrealistic career ambition and withdraw my applications currently being made and simply to accept what they say, while staying quiet about it - fact is if I had met the requirements for being cabin crew I would have got it long ago and I would not have had to throw good money after bad, wasting money con courses and books when it was always going to be the same outcome - I'm also getting counselling as its always human nature to want what we know what we can never have as it is now obvious that I have previously undiagnosed mental health issues which unrealistic career ambitions are obviously a symptom of

RUMOUR has it that the positions are possibly seasonal but on a permanent basis. ie work from end of March to end of October and no work in between end of october and end of march. it's to allow for the changes in requirements for CC between the different seasons. *****NB I said RUMOUR

johnrizzo2000
31st Jan 2012, 15:19
No rumor about it. They dont want permanenet, year round crew. Permanancy will happen on a 'permanent seasonal' basis working March-October, or May-September, depending on the airlines needs. It is like any charter airline. I'd presume the proposed 'permanent seasonal' crew will be 330 trained, or just utilised on short haul.

Traffic in/out of Ireland between November and early March falls off a cliff, so they dont want to be flying empty aircraft around.

I know three people who got email for interview yesterday. They were asked to select interview slot :( Still waiting. I thought my application was good, and I have a University degree

EISNN
3rd Feb 2012, 15:36
Hopefully you'll hear in the next few days but just remember you don't even need a leaving certificate never mind a uni degree. Besides who says that candidates with a uni degree make the best cabin crew? I know loads of cabin crew in all grades from different airlines who don't have third level qualifications and they are marvellous crew.

layla devine
3rd Feb 2012, 16:08
I never said that candidates with a University degree make the best cabin crew. Read my post. But having an education is not considered a disadvantage when applying for jobs, in my experience. I believe my degree in French and Italian is relevant for the job i've applied for. Best of luck everyone.

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

No one is doubting your ability to be cabin crew Layla and no one is putting you down. I was just clearly stating that one doesn't have to have a third level qualification to be cabin crew. And like you I wish everyone the very best of luck.

Now let's move on from this misunderstanding and concentrate and people getting emails/phone calls for interviews.

"Besides who says that candidates with a uni degree make the best cabin crew"

Yes lets move on. I have never felt the need to add a "sarcastic eyes" symbol as a response to anyone's post on this forum or any other forum. If you feel bitter about educated people, get an education.

All the best to everyone else :)

EISNN
4th Feb 2012, 21:54
@Layla. I do have a 3rd level education and speak 3 continental European languages and they didn't play any advantage to me when I successfully applied 16 years ago. And for the record I do genuinely wish you the best of luck.

Question - is the position only for people that currently live in Dublin? Are they provide accomodation?

layla devine
12th Feb 2012, 19:11
You would most likely have to relocate to dublin. I don't think Aer Lingus provide accomodation, but Emirates do in Dubai! I wonder if Aer Lingus provide accomodation/pay for the 5 weeks training???

johnrizzo2000
12th Feb 2012, 21:40
Aer Lingus does not provide accommodation. It's up to the candidate to locate themselves within 90 mins of Dublin Airport

Best of luck everyone!

22nd Feb 2012, 16:33
Hey, I had my interview yesterday, done my medical today, the uniform fitting is on Friday and training starts Tuesday. The interview was grand, just a few scenario based questions. The medical was just a general health check. Hearing, sight, blood pressure, pee test just the usuall. Just waiting to hear about the time for the uniform fitting on Friday now. :)

Anyone hear about any future dates for training?

meganp
26th Feb 2012, 20:20
Training is 4 weeks and we start flying straight away.
The contract is 9 months but we where told that they ate hoping to keep us on.
No news on what the salary will be. I think we are to embarrassed to ask. The had 50 possitions to fill and have 3 training courses going on right now.
As far as I know from what we discussed at the induction day they are finnished
Recruiting for now, so I don't think they will be taking any more on untill mabey next year, but that is just an assumption on my part.
The only night stop we will do is on LHR. We will not be doing transatlantic right away but one of the trainers said that they will need us for them sooner rather than later!! So fingers crossed!
Think I've answered everything I can!!

johnrizzo2000
27th Feb 2012, 14:42
To operate a transatlantic flight you need a US visa, which requires that you have a permanent contract. Aer Lingus will only make crew permanent if they really need to. They've plenty of permanent crew at present to operate the small transatlantic schedule.

Theyre still recruiting, but for a panel, as advertised
