HI 'Jaba'......

REUR - Heck this should get a 'sticky' for a while.....

As one who has flown the mighty Beaver, and who owns both a 'Tiger' and a 'Chippy',..... I thoroughly agree!!!

LUVLY!! :ok::ok:

On the 'other hand' there is a company in NZ called
'Beaver Liquors'.....Look it up!
Only the Kiwis could name a company after a
'sport'.....
:D:D

(The 'sport' of drinking that is....)

In you tube search for.. de havilland beaver crash at Lake Hood.

Looks like the "pilot" made no attempt to get it up on the step to fly off but kept pulling back, (increasing the drag) and was hoping Messers Pratt and Whitney's brute force might just get him up and away like superman.
Alas...
Some rather expensive crumpling noises going on there for a while.!
Good result for the occupants...no fire,NO fatalities. Pity about the a/c.

Provided the base machine is fairly light, and has the 5600lb MTOW increase then you can carry quite a bit of load. A machine on straight floats is around 1600kgs empty and with the mod can takeoff just under 2500kgs.

For amphibs you are looking at another 260kgs (minimum) to your empty weight over the straight floats.

Not to sure what the aircraft is without floats...anyone have any idea?

On another note, Happy New Year too all!

With that take off seems like he was doing a reduced power take off. Don't know if it's standard proceedure for floats or not. A Beaver at take off power should have a good noise resonating off everything, that one just seems to drone past. A Beaver at takeoffpower that close as he went past the camera should have you holding your ears.

Specs say empty weight of 3,000 lb (1,361 kg)

With the upgrade kit with a max weight of 5600lb (2,540kg)

Gives 1179kg without fuel.. Even with 400L (~300kg) fuel onboard, gives a useful load of 879kg..

I'm not sure if the Cleveland wheels change the weight much over the Goodyear when you fit the upgrade kit for wheels, but todays instruments, radios, starters & alternators are all lighter than was factory fitted back when the machines were built, so even with the 'upgrades' i'd imagine the weights would be fairly similar...

Biggest issue is keeping the thing within CoG when using an extended cabin without spending the extra $$ fitting the engine mount extension kit...

You'd wonder why they had the throttle in different positions, on the left as this one is and in the middle like all the AG one's I've seen. I've heard somewhere that the US military had them on the left. What's the flap thing on the dash, electric over hydrolic? Only ever seenum on the floor, pump handle and upndown.
Makes more sense to have the engine gauges up the top than below like they used to be, I like the old position below. Makes the top of the quadrant a lot cleaner somehow.
