It is already common knowledge that the Regional Government of Catalonia have agreed to pay Ryanair 40 Million euros over the next 5 years to bring an agreed number of tourists to the region. However, now they are in the final stages of putting a tourist tax in place (2 Euros per person per night). How exactly is that going to encourage visitors to the region ? If their motives are purely to increase revenue wouldn't they be better off not spending this 8 Million per year with Ryanair instead ?
