Latest I heard was that QR expect the first 787 bird by April or May of next year. So, I presume training for that airplane will begin in January (or maybe already started since SIM is onsite).

Anyone know how many QR will get (estimate) by end of 2012? 3-4 787s? Should be interesting to see if QR start offering newhire FO slots on the 787 at some point down the line...

Here is a preview of what you will see in the hanger in Doha from a previous stop on the Dreamliner tour (not a bad office):

I can't imagine the Boeing officials enjoy visiting Doha after the tough negotiating and lambasting (deservedly so for being late) from Al Baker. One would think that Boeing wants to get the first QR bird to Al Baker on time this time around.

That said, I just heard that ANA's 3rd 787 to be put into service is now delayed... Doesn't bode well for an on-time arrival of QR's first 787. I am sure Al Baker will stress punctuality with Boeing during this 787 tour.

If I am correct, QR has only ordered the 787-800 version - correct? Surprising that QR wouldn't want the stretched version (900 or 1000) like EY. I guess the A350s will be flying the longer, denser routes while the 787s will be used on thinner, newer routes (maybe as route development aircraft). Should be interesting to watch how the 787 is deployed at QR.
