From The West:

Pilot's forewarning

RONAN O'CONNELL

A Shelley pilot who crash-landed his plane at a Port Kennedy golf course yesterday says he yelled "fore" to the golfers below.

Bob Grimstead, 63, an experienced stunt pilot, said he had been concerned that the plane might hit someone as it landed on the driving range of the Links Kennedy Bay golf course.

Mr Grimstead said the motor of his Fournier RF4D light aircraft had cut out and he picked the golf course for an emergency landing. "The plane has an open cockpit so I just yelled 'fore' as loud as I could," he said.

No one was injured.

Did the same on Frankston Golf course in 1984 in a Chipmunk. I was all of 33 years and it was ladies day - being Wednesday. I got so much attention from all these 50+ ladies who shouted me lunch, and sham I was married at the time for th offer were there for dinner as well.

When the aircraft finall got fixed that afternoon I had to taxi all the way round the various fairway to the longest hole for take off.

AR those were the days.

Today I'd have had a CASA FOI pulling my licence and telling me to "truck" the aircraft out.

When you do all the right things, sometimes it works out well. Nice job Bob.
