This must be news indeed to the likes of OSN , AD , Jazeera and MBC ?
I think what your 'computer ' man meant to say , in his impeccable English no doubt , is that TV is not allowed to be supplied by the INTERNET ?

Oh , and what the hell has happened to Pprune today ? My reply to Gulfstream aviator on the subject has been logged as going out last night at 2308 when I have just sent it at 1121 on the 25th ?

Not sure if it works in the UAE on Etisalat but there is a system called 'Slingbox' which may be a solution.

Just drive through any neighborhood in Dubai like Jumeira 1, 2, 3, Satwa, etc. and notice the plethora of satellite dishes on the rooftops - and take your own conclusions.

What you get with the satellite dish is hundreds of channels in Arabic offering escort services or phone numbers to talk to women who are gesturing provocatively on your TV. If you are lucky, you will find Al Jazeera, France 24 and other worthwhile channels.

According to my computer repair man, sat reception of TV is illegal in UAE.

Etisalad E life is the only legal way to receive these services. ??????

Is this true, if so WTF.....

I told my man that i needed to repar my sat dish, as I had lost the signal to one receiver.

He then told me in perfect Delhi English that the use of sat dish reception was banned in DXB and ABU, and all signals must be routed via E service....

The Etisalat eLife was a requirement where I lived in a new development in Raha Beach - Abu Dhabi. You were not allowed to install your own dishes anywhere.
BUT eLife (or eVision or whatever they called it) is a fibre-based system. If your home aint got a fibre optic cable you cannot use it. End of story.
If - like my pad - it was all pre-wired (pre-fibred?) by the developer, the eLife system was fine but very expensive for any decent package of channels.
Of course you also got wireless internet access and a phone landline thrown in. But you had to buy your own phone hand set for the land line. I mean Etisalat are only a phone company - it would be too simple for them to give you one. And where can you buy a phone with an RJ11 connector on the end of the wire? I gave up - who needs a land line these days anyway...
