Just heard today that John Holland is going to be doing QF's 787's Class A, B and C checks in Melbourne when they arrive. :ugh:
Looks like there are going to be a lot of QF Engineers out of job in a few years time when there is no more 744's and 767's and A330's to fix.:ugh:

John Holland Aviation Services Selected as Boeing GoldCare Service Provider

Melbourne, 18 November, 2011: Boeing Commercial Airplanes has selected John Holland Aviation Services (JHAS) in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia to provide Boeing GoldCare maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for the region.

The GoldCare program designed by Boeing is a total care engineering and maintenance service to airline operators providing fully integrated maintenance solutions. As a partner in Boeing GoldCare, John Holland Aviation Services will provide line, base and heavy maintenance services as part of the fleet management maintenance services program for the Next Generation 737 and 787 Dreamliner aircrafts.

“We are proud and excited that Boeing has chosen JHAS to be a partner in its GoldCare program, a decision that reflects our position in the Australian MRO market,” said Karl Mociak, Executive General Manager, Transport Services, John Holland.

General Manager of JHAS, Ian Wolfe, said the new partnership with Boeing will provide access to the latest technologies, systems and processes in the worldwide MRO industry.

“Our selection underpins and supports our business plan to establish strategic partnerships with key OEMs and key operators in the region; the combination of both strategic partnerships and the growth that will bring, along with organic growth from our current operations, will further enhance our position in the MRO market within the Australasian region.”

He continued, “It is an exciting time at JHAS, as we continue to transform the business into a world class MRO with partners such as Boeing.”

Today's GoldCare announcement was welcomed by Victorian Minister for the Aviation Industry, Gordon Rich-Phillips, who said the Baillieu Government is a strong supporter of Victoria’s maintenance repair and overhaul sector as it provides a vital service to the airline industry.

The Minister said that Boeing's selection of JHAS as its Asia Pacific GoldCare partner is recognition that Victoria's aviation market is not only internationally competitive, but also the leader of Australia's aviation sector.

“This is a great opportunity for Victoria to become a prime location in the Asia Pacific with the capabilities to work on this new and exciting technology,” Minister Rich-Phillips said.

JHAS provides MRO services to major Australian and international airlines, with 737, A320, A330 and E190 as core capability. Australia’s largest independent MRO, JHAS is based at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport and has operations at all major airports across Australia.

Who would ever have thought a former Qantas director would be on the board.
Funnily enough he was on the board at both last time 'outsourcing' of QF engineering came up!

Hmm, so all these QF engineers are going to be out of a job with JHAS now the local Boeing 'Gold Care' provider eh?

Any time I stick my head in the JHAS shed these days, they're full of Airbuses. I wonder where all the airbus A320 and A330 work will be carried out? And where are JHAS going to get all the staff required to carry out all the Boeing work?

Keeping in mind two things. First , a great many if the people they may think will come from Qantas are looking more towards retiring. And second , Qantas has had some bad experiences with JHAS in the past. Particularly with 737 heavy maintenance . I'm not too sure that QE is completely dead yet.

As the wise Zen Master would say; "we'll see".

Can any one show me the announcement where Qantas and Jetstar have joined the Boeing Goldcare program?
I have done some searches on the net and nothing is coming up with Qantas or Jetstar as joining the Goldcare program.

Bit of a pickle for the ALAEA, representing the interests of its members in both QE and JHAS without compromising either party? The outsourcing argument takes a different twist when the outsourced party has paying union members.

not a drama listentome, jhas pay more for single lic than qf. I can see the guys lining up for the package & pay rise now.

http://www.fwa.gov.au/documents/agreements/wpa/CAUGN073935789.pdf

JHAS $75000 to $150000 so initial lic no shift $75000 (note not sure if this is even grp 20)

http://www.fwa.gov.au/documents/agreements/wpa/CAUN085259566.pdf

first grp 20 qf lvl 4 1220x52= $63440

so initial lic, no shift =$63440

jhas is a 8.5% or $11560 payrise

nice

Lets remember that the alaea had a Rep with the Forstaff Manager conducting all the interviews when they started up don't think they are that friendly with each other now though.

Didn't JHAS get shafted by QF a few years back over the A380.
Payback is a bitch!:p

Is it in writing that JHAS are doing QF 787s or is it just that they are the Goldcare provider.
There will be plenty of other airlines flying in when the 787s finally get airborne.

And if you think running of to JHAS and hope it will be greener pastures then think again. Getting a new type licence would be nice, but moving from QF management to JHAS management isn't all that good.

Speak to any JHAS employees and find out how they treat their staff, management are always fighting them, their equipment and facilites need some updating.

This will mean that JHAS will need to fork out some cash for training. Something they are reluctant to do, the way they have operated before is by poaching the licence rather than train a current staff member.

Sounds familiar.

Methinks that QE had a hand in the awarding of the contract to JHAS. Conspiracy theory, probably. But consider their track record recently and the ever winding up of our ops. Peter Gregg and Co. must be having a giggle at our expense.

what i understand, qf financed and paid all the jhas training and
costs so they could make a credible bid for the ay tree atey.
perhaps more correctly the international loss making department.:yuk:

Here's something to read about Mr Peter Gregg. It appears the current board of QANTAS is incestuous with former directors and high-up managers.

Here's a link.

Peter Gregg | Leighton Holdings (http://www.leighton.com.au/about_us/corporate_structure/lhl_resumes/peter_gregg.html/section/209)

Amazing how the links always go back to Orange Star, which is now New Star Holdings, and that Leighton is a parent company to JH Group, incorporating JHAS.

Who chairs the JH Group? This lady.

John Holland (http://www.johnholland.com.au/Documents.asp?ID=14206&Title=Janet+L+Holmes+a+Court%2C+AC)

She also chairs the Rio Tinto WA Future Fund.

What a small world the aviation world has become.

This seems part of the long term plan that they have been too coy to share with us.

I thought that we learnt from our experience with IASA that putting too much responsibility and reliance on another maintenance provider can have undesirable ramifications when circumstances beyond our control may occur. It is not as if LEI have been doing so spectacular of late.
