Hi Guys

If I have an FAA CPL / IR / ME with an FAA Class 1 medical which has a SODA due to eyesight issues (amblyopia), is it possible to get a JAA Class 1 initial issue on the basis of renewal standards?

I found some info on it a while back but I can't track it down again. I seem to recall that if you were converting an FAA ATPL to JAA then the the initial JAA Class 1 could be treated as a renewal (in which case even monocularity isn't a show-stopper), but was wondering what the situation was if converting an FAA CPL.

Could anyone help out with the references?

Many thanks.

You may want to look at this chart:
http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?categoryid=49&pagetype=90&pageid=2577
which seems to suggest that they will treat your situation as an initial Class 1 medical.

You need to speak with them directly to get a definitive answer.

gomrath is correct, unless you held a class 1 previous and not over 5 years old, then renewal, but if never held a class 1 then they would treat as initial medical, i would aggree and contact them and check with them, rather than spending more money only for a failure..
