Due to chronic slow running that has been getting worse regardless of the usual fixes I've done a disk recovery ans started again from scratch. Everything is working fine inc internet access except MS Outlook which comes up with a "MS Outlook has stopped working. " immediately on startup of the program. It also says it windows wil close the program - but it does not, and will report on a solution but the little circle just goes round and round and round and nothing else happens.
I've reloaded MS office and no difference.
What am I missing?

There are a couple of options in THIS (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/officeversion_other-office_install/microsoft-outlook-2010-has-stopped-working/edd00e77-e76c-4b24-b32e-674ef0c4e6dd)thread.

The Safe mode/Addins could be one, or maybe a new .PST.

Let us know.

Uninstall Outlook.
Remove Outlook items from the registry.
Reinstall Outlook.

What it currently sounds like is that the reinstall of Outlook is finding the original Outlook install and not overwriting whatever's at fault as a result. It's either that, or a corrupt PST as Spurlash says (in which case, try scanpst.exe against it).
