Hello mate, I spent a week there about 8 years ago, first week of December. Apparently it never rains that time of year but it did for us!:oh:

I did lots of research, most places seem pretty keen to offer a discount, or at least they did. We ended up on the Italian version of 'Hi De Hi'....so it was a poor choice on my part and certainly the whole holiday wasn't a great experience. Be aware of the hidden charges, meals, watersports etc, its all extra and its not cheap. From memory we paid 90USD per nite/per person, and that did include breakfast, but nothing else, at all. The ferry ride was around 2.5 hours out to the island, can't remember what that cost. Another point before I forget, take USD. When you land you'll need to take a Dhoni, or a boat, over to Mali if you plan or need to stay there, and there is no ATM or cash exchange so I had to borrow money from someone else and then find an ATM the next day and go round to their hotel to repay them. The airport is on its own island and there is nothing there. Personally, I wouldn't rush back, but it is quite beautiful and unique. I just found being on an island you could walk round in 15 minutes was a bit limiting, unless you have cash to burn on things to do. I did a scuba dive there, and if your into that, then I'd say go, it was quite something.

I don't mean to sound to negative and I'm sure someone else has a bit more up to date info. I'm glad I went, but I don't think I'd go again.

Hope this helps, PM me if you want any other info.

Sorry I found Banyan Tree gouge central > No air con, well open the windows if that counts ,outside shower if that's your thing . They Advertise 3 restaurants but they are s all in the same place just different section of the same building
Everything and I mean everything is extra and one thing that they do exceptionally well is rack up the extras, they do know how to charge .
We went for a sightseeing trip to other Hotels in the vicinity . Paradise Island or Hotel was fantastic. young party crowd, rooms have air con and TV and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves there
Personally getting to and from can be troublesome, The boat from the hotel is hard on the body crashing through the water at speed in the dark .
I think Bali is a better bet or Fiji or Micronesia .
Best place in the world Hawaii either Big Island or Oahu
Just some suggestions
I wouldn't rush to go back . But maybe you should go before it disappears below the waves Global warming and all
