On a similar vein as the sector clock thread, can anyone point me in the direction of a good website for old (WW2) aero charts? I'm looking for the sort that I guess are either 1/4mil or 1/2mil and are topos with airfields annotated.

After an abortive attempt to land 5 illegal immigrants at Kimbolton disused aerodrome was made in 1971, the Directorate of Military Survey restricted the loan of wartime aerodrome maps, unfortunately.

However, Aerial Views Of UK Airports & Airfields (http://www.content-delivery.co.uk/aviation/airfields/) is a MS Virtual Earth: UK Active & Disused Airports, Airfields, Heliports & Landing Sites website which is very good.

Cornell Books in the high street, Tewkesbury 01684 293337/[email protected] They specialise in old maps and I've picked up TONS of WWII UK charts and War Department 1" Cassini grid maps in the past. If you're in the area it's worth popping in as often you'll find stuff they didn't even know they had buried under a box in the map room. Failing that, Fleabay.

One of the Oxford University libraries which sits within the umbrella of the Bodleian Library has a vast collection of old maps, incl. aeronautical. As I student I had a look once. You can Google. I'm pretty sure access is not generally available to members of the "public", however I bet you could get some kind of temporary access if you can make a case/blag (e.g. serious academic study/can't obtain mateial anywhere else/ etc. etc.)
