Apart from the obvious, are there any economical differences between the 2 types of aircraft.

Not sure if this is entirely accurate but the jet version was more of a "show off". The turboprop is more economical for short hops that it's designed for. I don't have any hard figures to back this up but I did a fairly detailed bit of research last year on regional aircraft and in terms of efficiency the jets loose in short hop operations so I would imagine that the answer is yes - there definitely has to be a difference in economy.
