Martin Ferguson also appears to lack the ability to take his blinkers off, fearing PIA by airline staff will result in 1989 again, and should not be allowed to impact the tourism industry. The article suggests he will move to legislate protections against it.

FFS! This is LEGAL industrial action sanctioned by FWA. Isn't an ex Qantas employee on the board of Tourism Australia?.....why isn't there a credible investigative journo looking into this? This is just starting to show the extent that people are prepared to go to to hold on to their bonuses and/or kickbacks.

These politician's should be asking why there is so much industrial action at the Roo at the moment by different sections of the buisiness. If Jetstar employees are starting to take action things must really be bad. I wonder if Joyce realises that Jetstar pilots and Qantas Short Haul EBA's are shortly up for negotiations, and i can't imagine those guys are really in the mood to take one for the company.

(beat me to it Capt Kremin!)

Nearly every person in that Group represents someone/industry/Company who will be financially affected by the PIA's if there is an impact on air travel, so what do you expect them to do????

At least on paper, this is not a group that you would want to get offside but maybe too late for that now.

The Rat PR continues to dominate.

Fiji first...

Expect much more of this in the future, as the government & big business meld into one cohesive unit against the other 99% of the population.

So do you really expect these folk to sit back and do nothing , whilst your PIA ruins them ? you have every right to take what action you see fit . So do they , stop whingeing about fellow Australians protecting their interests , in the same way you are. Please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AFAIK the only groups of people who legally can't strike (or are restricted from doing so) are the emergency services. Is the Minister seriously considering similar legislation for airline workers? What about rail workers, bus workers, the list goes on... Maybe no-one will be allowed to strike, because by its nature a strike has economic implications.

The FWA already restricts strikes to very specific occasions. Any futher restriction in the interests of big business would be a serious infringement of the workers' right to withdraw their labour, and I can't believe that a so-called Labor government would even suggest it. You expect the Libs to be pro big business, but these guys are supposed to be worker-friendly. Obviously not anymore .

P.S. I do like the Jetstar no baggage fee collection action. Great idea and very good PR as far as the customers are concerned.

WITW there is no right to strike in Australia, but PIA can encompass stop work meetings (among other things) Fair Work Australia can suspend or terminate PIA if it is in the national interest to do so. The relevant minister can do likewise. Fair Work Act ss 423 - 434 cover it. Sorry haven't got time to get the link.

Fair enough. The only time I went on strike was under previous legislation. Of course there are no rights at all in Australia as we have no bill of rights and the Constitution doesn't guarantee any, so all we have are legislated privileges.

It's a nice place so we all tend to forget that. :( Big Business Roolz as always.
I wonder if Qantas has any political lobbyists in the ranks? :hmm:

Martin Ferguson also appears to lack the ability to take his blinkers off Thats how politicians work - blinkered by big business. QF cries foul and the Pollies jump to QF's side. What a shock! No nepotism and favouritism there hey?

Martin Ferguson.
Hasn't he forgotten his roots, and who got him pre-selected to a safe Labor seat. He doesn't care about how he got there, just as long as he got there. Remember one thing - politics is not about serving the constituents or acting on behalf of the taxpayer, it is about bending over for corporate business and lining your pockets on the way to early retirement with life long taxpayer funded perks.
Fergo got what he wanted, a nice little seat in government and permanent membership to the political gravy train !
'Toot toot all aboard' !! Next stop - another trough to bury our snouts in, followed by a stop in Mascot! Toot toot.

Funny thing with this - the government wants to inervene in QF's affairs, yet the government won't even intervene in it's own or state affairs such as understaffed hopsitals, people dying untreated or neglected in hospitals, and here is the catch -hospital workers striking! Yet no government 'intervention' there??

Here is what we do. Any Pollie that sticks their nose into this battle should receive a gaurenteed 'no vote' next election. A 'no vote' by you, your family, your friends. Rob them of their polical gravy train and send them packing.
