Only someone who had never visited "Spain" could say "typically Spanish". There is no "typical" about this collection of autonomous self-governing countries and a lot of bits and pieces as well, all grouped under the slightly leaky roof of "Spain" (which to most of us means Madrid.)

However: prostitution is a terrible problem in Alt Emporda. The girls, all eastern European and run by Russian/Chechnian/Rumanian/Ossian "mafia", are brought in and practice their trade at the roadside, often in the full light of day (to be explicit, that's the sexual act.) With the main trunk road, the N-II, running down from France to Valencia, the girls do a roaring trade with truck drivers (sorry, truck drivers, but that's the way it is) and the French popping down from their more tightly-regulated country to have a quickie in Spain. (Sorry French friends and associates, but etc etc). The girls bring with them cocaine addiction, people-traficking, and other crime, and nobody has any idea how many are kidnapped and meet a nasty end somewhere else, because lets face it, there's always more girls waiting where they came from.

Bad bad business.

hmmm, you'd think they'd be pretty good at it by now with the amount of custom they get!

So true. Not only does the country have 4 official languages (languages, not dialects) it also has dialects and subdialects. One of the languages, Euskera (or Basque) is totally unrelated to any of the others.

'Spanish food' is also an umbrella term for dozens of regional variations.

Malaga Ayuntamiento know what they are doing. The prostitutes have ploughed their trade on part of the Guadalahorce Industrial Estate for years.

It is an attempt to get the women off some very busy industrial/warehouse roads where they have in recent times, increased in number due to the economic climate/lack of jobs and are becoming somewhat of a nuisance to people going about their normal business.

Sounds like a few members of the Ayuntamiento of Malaga, from the Alcalde downwards, have found a way to boost their already inflated incomes.

and the French popping down from their more tightly-regulated country to have a quickie in Spain.

Was in France in the summer between Narbonne and Carcasonne and there were quite a few ladies plying their trade on the road.

Littlie asked what the Ladies were doing in shorts and little other gear. I said they were tourist guides helping travellers who had got lost. :ok:
He accepted it without question but when we returned he told his grandmother about all these tourist guides..................which required some explaining:O

Such tourist guides can be found along the sides of the roads through the Bois de Boulogne - at least they offer to show visitors a good time . . .

I expected an article about Spanish ATCO salaries and their working practices.
I guess that prostitutes might be deemed by some to come close.....

Shortly after "The Wall" came down, scores of Czech girls showed their happiness, friendliness and appreciation of their new-found freedoms, by lining the highway to/from the German border and waving at smiling at the passing cars.

Maybe the Spanish tour guides were inspired by this spontaneous outpouring of affection for the more established EU countries......
