SWMBO saw a VC-10 [she used to work on them] on a downwind leg? for Farnborough [viewed from South of the Hog's Back].

Anyone else see this magnificent machine?

Or did SWMBO misidentify the VC-10/or it wasn't aiming at EGLF?

I am betting it was a distant Gulfstream….

PS Would the VC-10 be too noisy for Farnborough anyway?

Go here: REG (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tony.stevenson1/2011/sep.htm) and scroll down to 28th. I can't see a VC-10 listed..

More likely to be inbound Odiham. Although Farnborough could accept a military VC10, they're unlikely to because of the noise nuisance.

There was no Visit by VC10 To Either Fields Yesterday which really had it
happened would have been a big event for local Spotters.
Good few years since we had one of those into FAB .
If Anyone is interested TF-SIF DHC8 Icelandic coast Guard arrived
at FAB Late Afternoon thats rare for any military Aircraft here

chevvron,
the 'music' emitted by the 'Queen Of The Skies' should never be referred to as "noise nuisance".

I know an RAF VC10 visited on 25th Jan 1990 (a long time ago, I know), because I was on it!

We positioned in from Brize, parked outside the black sheds, picked up some RAE bods and took them to visit RAF Honnington (which was a Tornado bomber base in those days).

Plan was to return later in the day, but we were grounded by hurricane-force winds at Honington, our pax returned by road and we ended up with an unscheduled night stop (with a fuel bowser parked in front of the aeroplane to stop it blowing away!).

ZOOKER: I agree but a certain local person as referred to by Gulf4uk wouldn't; the healthy crackle of 4 Conways whether VC10 or Victor was almost as enjoyable as a 'flock' of Merlins.

Gulf4uk as you are well aware it's basically one vociferous person who's all bitter because he lost his seat on the council.

Wycombe: don't recall a VC10 picking up boffins but I do recall a medevac flight during (I think) Gulf War 1 bringing one or two clients for the (sadly no more) Cambridge Military Hospital in Aldershot. We (ATC) got told off for accepting it on humanitarian grounds as a specialist lift was required for the stretchers but it all worked out OK in the end.
Edit: I think it was an RAF doctor at IAM who objected to the VC10; he somehow heard we'd accepted it and tried to stop it coming; course it was nothing to do with him.

Fairly sure I have the date right Chevvron, that day was memorable as it was the biggest "blow" since the famous "not a hurricane" storm of Oct'87.

I remember the approach into Honington being fairly "sporting" and quite a few of the "boffins" utilising the chunder bags.

Don't doubt you are correct, just that for some reason I wasn't on duty (we were doing 8-5 weekdays only in those days so no separate 'watches' as now).
We often used to get requests for a VC10 to come over for circuit bashing but we had to refer these to COEF so they were usually turned down.
