Didnt some Met police firearms instructor shoot one of his pupils a year or two back during a lesson on safe-handling of weapons?

Anyone know what happened to him? Was he allowed to take early retirement on health grounds or did they just promote him out of harm's way?

Not Darwin, but he definitely qualifies for the Wile E. Coyote Award.

Cop Shoots himself in the leg - YouTube

"I'm the only person in this room professional enough to carry a glock 40 ... BOOM"

Apparently he sued the Police service for allowing the video to get out, as he was held up to ridicule, hurting his feelings...

Can't understand it. I've got one of them there Glock 40s and they have one heck of a trigger pull. They almost never fail, and certainly don't surprise their owners by suddenly going off by themselves . . . well, except with that cop.

This long and hard trigger pull is used instead of a safety catch.

I didn't realize there were adults in the room. To think they sat there and listened to that cringe-making drivel he came out with is bewildering.

Referring to the OP's video, exactly why was the action being videoed (and why did it get published)?

On my long-gun training course, a couple of the case studies were amusing...

American hunter who tried to beat a racoon to death with the butt of his shotgun. The gun went off... killing the hunter. (The racoon survived.)

Another hunter - sorry, American too - who was in a hide with a wild turkey caller. A second hunter approached the sound. At the worst possible moment the first hunter chose to blow his nose with, of all things, a red handkerchief... and was promptly shot dead!

Both true and on RCMP files.

Both true and on RCMP files.

Both Americans happened to be in Canada when the accidents happened then? Not that we don't have a history of exporting stupid. :ok:

Regardless, dumb luck on both of them, that is for sure.

The Cop was teaching gun safety in a class room, and has a loaded gun laying on the table?

Many years ago I had a misfire with a .38 revolver on a range. Following the range safety instructions I kept the gun pointing downrange and called the instructor. After asking me a couple of questions to ensure that I really had a misfire, he then proceeded to turn the gun round and look down the barrel!!

Luckily he got away with it, it was a genuinely duff round, but now I don't find too much difficulty in believing some of the previous stories.

As was the case here, Green Granite.

This was the one I was referring to in post #3. As I said, it would be interesting to hear what happened to the instructor. If you read through the comments after the above article it is amazing how lax the punishments are which are handed out to police found guilty of firearms offences, nothing like the (justifiably) harsh punishments which members of the public would incur.

Well, if it wasn't intended it's still a pretty good name.

It looks to me like he has racked back the slide, to show an empty chamber (which it was) under the Overhead Projector light, but forgetting to FIRST removing the magazine :ugh:

He has then released the slide lock, allowing the slide forward and thus chambering a round from the magazine, and deliberately pulled the trigger to release the cocked hammer without aiming the weapon in a safe direction. :ugh: As he thought he had "proved" the weapon, he expected the click of a hammer falling on an empty chamber, but instead achieved an inadvertent discharge.

Not quite as bad as Daddy letting his 4 year old son play with a loaded gun:

Then you get our wuckfit cops renting out their firearms to gangs to use in armed robberies (if they're not involved themselves).
