Wings Air engine fire and RTB not reported to NTSC

A Wings Air ATR72 (a subsidiary of Lion Air in Indonesia) had an engine fire and RTB in Medan on August 9th according to this report (http://avherald.com/h?article=4419506b/0000&opt=0). It was a good outcome as the aircraft landed safely after the RTB. But what was alarming was that the incident was not reported by the flight crew or airline to the NTSC immediately after the incident as required by law. The only way the authorities knew about it was from the engine manufacturer (Pratt and Whitney) themselves. :rolleyes:

And also surprising is that this is a relatively new aircraft of about 2 years old...

Before the bashing commences... has this allegation been confirmed by the Indonesian DGCA?

If this fact than this is just another reason why to continue to black ball Indonesian carriers from the rest of the world. I think I read in ATW the other day that there have been some 30 accidents involving Indonesian carriers resulting in many deaths since 2005.

There was report made by the crew, I know because I was the copilot ( massey you know me we have flown together ! )
As for the rest, the prop didnt feather, we did all memory items and checklists, we saved the plane... We have done our job correctly !
The bleed leak is a problem of EVERY Pratt PW series ...
Dont always blame the pilots, before talking, please find out the right informations !

The primary issue is the reporting and oversight by the DGCA. Especially when it comes to large operators, there was an incident late last year (another operator) that was seemingly covered up for a while before it saw the light of day. Like you say in this case otherwise handled fine.

Sorry mate, I was just going by what the Avherald report said. Kudos to you and the crew to RTB in somewhat difficult circumstances. Wouldn't want to be in that situation myself.
