View Full Version : What comes after 787 ?

25th Sep 2011, 14:46
I have fairly simplistic handle on the Airbus 'progression' of platforms, and now that A380 is up and being manufactured, the A320neo comes next.

But what comes after the 787 for Boeing ?

Just asking as I have no idea and cannot recall anything publicly stated, whether in concept or not.

perhaps they should try going faster instead of slower .

bankruptcy sale? everything half price?

This may be better suited in the Spotters Forum. That said, you are mixing wide-bodies with narrow-bodies.

In a nutshell:

Airbus has the A350 coming up if you are looking for something new in a wide-body. The 320 NEO is an upgrade to the existing narrow-body Airbus. No announced plans to replace that (that I can recall).

Boeing has the 787 (wide-body). They also have the 747-8 (somewhat of an upgrade - new wing) wide-body and then the 737MAX which is the upgrade to the 737NG (narrow-body). Following that is the next narrow body replacing the 737 but that is a ways off.

perhaps they should try going faster instead of slower .

Didn't sell

737MAX seems to be the next major programme, but revisions to the 777 (they're calling it 777X or 777-8X / 777-9X) are also being talked about. The pace of this work will depend on what Boeing feel they need to do to compete with the bigger A350 models.

Also being talked about are a 767-400F programme for FedEx, and further 787s...the 787-10 for starters.

Next all new model? Probably a 797 to replace the 737MAX sometime in the early 2020's...but that could all change!

You heard it here first.
The Boeing 800-100.
A blended wing 90m wingspan 6 jet with a shopping mall and micro hotel. And a range of more than any passenger can stand.

Coming to you in 2020.

Trust me.

Have you told Boeing?

Actually, Sir George isn't too far off. We've been screwing with this design for years. This is a scale model.

Wot about a 707-1100, turning over the clock... ?
Or a 1707 (just barely supersonic)?

They're really running out of numbers...

"bankruptcy sale? everything half price?"

Oh yeah and the A380 is such a huge financial success!!!!

When Airbus has been around as long as Boeing and had the runs on the board then let's talk about it.There is also speculation that a lot of money and subsidies from various European governments have been given to keep them going and help with sales.

it will be

Was that the A380 you were talking about?

The contract has been signed and the first 787 now belongs to ANA. The delivery ceremonies begin Monday morning in Everett Washington at 0900 Pacific Time.

There will be a live webcast of the event.

The 797, which according to David Graham (author Down To
A Sunless Sea) is a 747 lengthened by 50 odd feet and a 5th
engine installed at the back where the APU was.

Pretty impressive aircraft - flies off the deck at 130 knots at
450t TOW, has engines that keep going in thick nuclear ash
clouds, and lands reasonably well in the ice and slush mess
at McMurdo Sound.

I remember that book, didnt they manage to fly it from Lajes to Mc Murdo sound Antartica with about 800 on board and carry out a safe landing!! That was some aircraft!

Yeh and typical airline pilot too - he shagged that exquisitely
exotic female Russian Antonov captain Valentina, then went
and unceremoniously booted the Purser out of his bed.

Real bummer ending that book though.

"Down to a Sunless Sea" - the predicts for the Boeing 797 might not come true, but I'm thinking the rest of the book might. Economic disaster, nuclear war, global tilt.

God, I'm depressed. All the resistors down my right side are aching.

Warning: Thread Drift, triggered by Slasher's post.

Last week I was at a large family do in the UK. A nubile young wife, (see Slasher's post) attending without her husband and more than slightly intoxicated, was on the prowl on the dance floor, and came my way more than once.

Given that also at the 'do' were my wife, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, aunt-in-law etc., what should I have done to deal with the situation ?

One is not the first to be confronted in this way:

In trutina mentis dubia
fluctuant contraria
lascivus amor et pudicitia.
Sed eligo quod video,
collum iugo prepeo;
ad iugum tamen suave transeo.
In the scales
Of my wavering indecision
Physical love and chastity are weighed
But I choose what I see.
I bow my head in submission
And take on the yoke which is after all sweet.

29th Sep 2011, 12:50
First thing is - what DID you do to deal with the situation
assuming you didn't end up with any stray bullets lodged
in your spine?

We can work from there.

There, that should get us to the year 2070 or thereabouts...
