I don't usually care about delays, but anyone know why IRA710 out of Heathrow is delayed since yesterday? At the time of departure there was a biblical rainstorm but it only lasted for about 10-20 mins

I read elsewhere it was weather that delayed it initially and then the crew ran out of hours.

As the aircraft was taxying for departure we were informed that the runway at its destination (Manston) was flooded hence it returned to the gate. The aircraft departed the following day.

Which raises a much more interesting question - why would IR710 be flying from Heathrow to Manston?

The flight refuels at Manston.

Apparently Iran Air cannot upload fuel at Heathrow but can at Manston, hence the tech stop.

Oh right...... how bizarre!

I believe they have been using Manston since about April. IIRC the reason given at the time was fuel supply problems.

I asked a related question about Iran Air's refuelling policy and was given some very helpful answers, which are partly relevant to your question. They follow my post here :

Iran Air refeuls in Manston due to sanctions , at Manston there is an independant refueller , that isn't under Yank control , the Iran Engineer flies out of LHR on their a/c to Manston , and then monitors the upload of fuel , after departure he then returns via train , Iran Air UK based staff have also had their Bank accounts closed due to sanctions as well , and cannot have Visa , Mastercard accounts either due to sanctions ............well done the good old US of A ....................
