The Annual 99 Sqn Charity Aircraft Pull is being held at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire. Teams representing the Police, Medical Services and the Armed Forces from all over the UK will pull a RAF aircraft against the clock over a set distance for the coveted Aircraft Pull Title. In 2009, a C-130J Hercules aircraft was the challenge; in 2010, a 101 Sqn VC-10 provided the challenge to the pulling teams. In 2011, the ultimate challenge awaits the teams in the form of the almighty Boeing C-17 Globemaster III.
The monies raised are to be donated to BLESMA (British Limbless Ex-Servicemen's Assoc) and RAFA (The Royal Air Force Assoc) two charities very close to 99 Sqn's heart.
All too often, a 99 Sqn C-17 is scrambled with a Critical Care team to Afghanistan to recover seriously injured service personnel back to Birmingham Selly Oak Hospital for life-saving care. This duty has brought the dedicated personnel of No. 99 Sqn, Tactical Medical Wing (TMW) and Birmingham Airport Police together and the friendship born of this has developed into a need to help further and so the aircraft pull was born.

The 99 Sqn team is therefore looking for sponsorship and hoping to raise over £10,000 for these two very worthy causes. If you can help or know someone who would like to sponsor us please spread the word and visit our just giving page or the aircraft pull charity web site

99 Sqn is fundraising for The RAF Association (RAFA) (http://www.justgiving.com/99squadronaircraftpull2011/)

So I looked at the 99 Sqn aircraft pull thread, and found this in the pictures section.

The guy at the front is wearing RAF aircrew Sgt's tapes, and what appears to be an RAF pilot brevet. AAC transferee maybe?

No big deal either way, but I was just curious.

Are you sure its not one of those 'Future Pilot' stickers given out at airshows, charity events, etc? Its just the guy third from the front also apears to have one and it looks like it has been stuck on in such a way as to obscure his name on the patch its been afixed to.

They are also auctioning off a 99Sqd Bremont watch. Should make a good bit of money for them!

Seems that C17 loadies are trying to outdo their slightly urine smelling colleagues on the Herc fleet by pulling even bigger birds.

Of course Chinook loadies must struggle to pull any birds, judging by the size of their boll*cks.

Going without a few beers and a Chinese for one evening is the least I can do. Such a good cause, and thanks for your hospitality yesterday.
