Following on from speedbird744's post about BA shorthaul pilots I am just wondering what a typical roster would look like for a BA longhaul driver, say for someone high up the seniority list and someone lower down

On a 30 day month:

Days 1-2 Fly to hot place, stay in flash hotel.

Days 3-5 stay in hotel; swim, chat up FAs, check investments on laptop, call wife, chat up FAs

Days 5-6 Fly home. Drive Mercedes to Camberley.

Days 7-15 Rest

Day 16 Sim check for 4 hours. Take wife (or someone's wife) to dinner

Days 17-18 Fly to agreeably warm place

Days 19-23 Refer to days 3-5. Buy new Breitling out of sheer boredom.

Days 24-25 Fly home, sleeping half of the way to avoid dangerous fatigue. Ensure FO does FMS and other chores.

Days 26-30 See estate agent regarding big new house that your wife wants.

============================

Just joking of course. Thank the Lord this is an anonymous forum.

Nice life JPJ.You Wouldnt fly for BA by any chance?

I'm starting LH in the Autumn.From what I can glean from my LH pals I can expect the following;

Day1 - Fly to Narita
Day2,3-Get bored in Hotel in Narita
Day4- Fly Home from Narita.Spend all day trying to get on shuttle. Then drive 10yr old wreck home to Cheadle.
Day5,6,7-recover from trip to Narita.Send huge cheque to ex wife,ex kids and ex cat.
Day8 - Standby day. Possible call out to Narita.
Day9 Fly to Narita.

Rest of life, repeat the above until insanity
sets in or promoted before old age sets in.

Please god let it be different.

JPJ: Where abouts in Camberley do you live, that's my location! Perhaps I could buy you a drink, I need to start getting to know more pilots now I have my CPL!

What gave you the idea that I could afford to live in Camberley? I can only just afford to drive through it. Still, if you can live in four-ringers' Nirvana while you are a trainee, things can't be too bad.

Although my post above is pretty accurate, it is fair to say that it arises more from jealousy than from experience.

From your comments I assume you are starting BA long-haul in the Autumn.

Three questions

1. Why are you going to BA in the first place as you are so obviously not looking forward to it?

2. How in hells teeth did you get through the interview with such a negative attitude - tell them what they wanted to hear?

3. Why don't you stay in the job you are in at the moment?

Wet Power,

I've got nothing to do with BA, I work for Britain's "other" LH carrier and am being dragged kicking and screaming from my nice local A320 onto the 340 as the 320 operation is to be no more.

Actually I'm quite looking forward to it. The posting was just meant to be a little light relief (geddit?).

Narita, here I come.

Apologies Northern Boy. By the nature of the title it sounded like you were going BA longhaul - either that or Lufthansa(LH).

Not ideal your move off the 320 to a London base but should be able to make it work - I know of a Virgin 744 skipper commuting from Aberdeenshire!

Cheers Wetpower I'm sure it will be Ok, just requires a bit of adjustment. My view being slightly colored by a horrendous experience with the shuttle during the rail shenanigans earlier in the year and several ex LH colleages who dont seem to relish the prospect of going back to it.

The longhaul lifestyle appears to be what you make of it and I'm sure that applies to BA as much as my lot for those reading the thread for some info.BA do seem to get rather more in the way of route variety due to their size (not to mention allowances)but it would seem that the junior folk spend a lot of time in the third world and from the tone of some threads don't take home the vast sums that are rumoured. At VS everyone gets a go and the network is expanding.

All we need now are some decent allowances.
