Once you have your ppl + cpl/ir and mcc etc do you also need a type rating? or will you be able to apply as a pilot then the company offers it?

It varies from company to company.
Some companies may want you to pay for so called "line training". Which means YOU will pay THEM to fly first 300-1000 hours.
While other companies will provide you with type-rating and everything else.
As you may have figured out, paying for line training is a scam and we dont wont it in our profession, so I hope you (and everyone else) will stay away from it.
For TR, its still bad that we have to pay for TR, however, for many new-educated pilots its may be the only way to make it into cockpit.
But you can always do some CFI, build some hours, gain experience, get to know people and you may get into good company which will sponsor your TR.

If you found a job that needs a type rating, it's sometimes an option to fund it yourself depending the contract.
If you haven't found a job that needs a type rating, it doesn't make sense to get one.
In this case do what you already paid to be trained for: flying small piston engine airplanes, or CFI as wrote cefey.

Funding your own type rating or line experience is a fool's errand. Any legitimate operator chooses his employees as the best fit for the operation; then arranges for the training, paid for. The inexperienced among us are just showing how stupid aviation can be.
We just hired 3 guys, all needed training, no payment necessary. They did agree to a period of work, but that did come with a payment unless they left early. Very hard to collect in the US, anyway.

don't bother with them, they want believe they will get a well paid job, have lot of flight attendants,and a nice uniform.
Pilots are just a bunch of immature kids.Let them pay, when money is gone and airline will start to recruit, they will still fight with lawyers to try to get their money back.
These guys even sent money via wire transfer or Western Union to unscupulous companies and have no recourse when they discover it was a scam.
Now, this industry is inventing a new way to get their money. They have managed to use BA.BA will soon sell line training.
