View Full Version : Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No really, what IS it?

While surfing the web in search of information on attempts at flying cars (and roadable planes, as they seem to be called nowadays), I found one photo numerous times, but it is always used as a symbolic image without further information. This:

The more I look at it, the more it looks like pre-photoshop image manipulation (the plane looks upside down, the car part would probably be to heavy for the single engine - I think).

So, does anybody know where the photo comes from? Is there more behind it than a bored graphic designer?

Looks like a photo of the Convair Model 118 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_Model_118). It was very real.

In a textbook classic case of government dysfunctionality, current efforts to make a car which flies have the FAA saying the prototype is too heavy and the dept of transportation saying it is too light.

Kinda makes ya proud!
