Joyce suggests that Qantas' cost of manpower is too high and puts it at a competitive disadvantage.
What are Qantas labour costs ?
What are pilots total wages bill ?
A portion of the Qantas workforce is part time.
Job sharing in many departments is also in effect.
No doubt there are those who visit this forum who should be able to provide a reasonably assessment of wages as a percentage of cost.

The overall wages bill at the rat has been declining over time.Currently it stands at around 17% of total costs.Six years ago it was 23%
Pilot costs are around 3%of the cost of labour.
Executive remuneration has steadily increased from the days when Menadue ran the place for $250k p.a
Like any business costs are one factor.How clever management are at maximizing revenue and purchasing the correct plant and associated resources that are appropriate fior the company is also another factor.
It should be noted that it is difficult to determine the effectiveness of bonuses when calculating the "bang for buck' companies receive from their executives.Most execs are already well remunerated.Bonuses do not neceassarily make them smarter or more competent in their management role
