.......so....... if they want to make the airline more profitable why are they cancelling orders for boeings most advanced and efficient airliner to date the 787??

These twits really don't know which way is up!

Of these 110 new A320's, 78 will be the new A320 NEO, 99 are destined for Jetstar including 24 allocated to Jetstar Japan. Don't know where the balance of 11 A320's are going, perhaps to the new 'premium' Qantas startup.

Replacements. Jetstar has plenty of high time examples.

Air Asia recently placed a massive order. The last ones to be delivered will be replacing the first ones.

They have?

The number of options were reduced some time back, however, they still have 50 on order for delivery 2013 - 2018.

Where do they plan acquiring the flightcrew from for all the additional aircraft?

Both Boeing and Airbus?

GA is just full of highly experienced, motivated and suitable applicants, just ask the recruitment team. They must see a very different GA than I'm seeing!

They'd better hop to it then, eh Fathom? None delivered yet and only 2 years and 1 1/2 months to go!

Bruce Buchanan ( ex Boston Consulting Group) used to say (2011) that annual 'growth rates in Asia (and I am paraphrasing) would see JQ requiring hundreds of aircraft by 2020'...
Sadly with the JQ franchises not performing like they proclaimed, the narrative has changed. Bruce however moved on to cosmetics we are told!

Thus, Alan will have to put the aircraft somewhere...It will likely be Qantas. It seems with the plans for Asia on hold, it has been a little too much tip and less iceberg..

The standard Industrial relations play is to wait for an economic downturn, roll out the A320 threat (ignoring the costs of introduction and complete re-write of everything domestic) and open 'negotiations' The implied threat of course is that the aircraft will go to Jetconnect, Cobham, Network or Qantas Link(Have we missed one?)...Pilots need not worry if they 'give up whatever they can' to get flying...It's old and tired, but it worked.Wash, rinse and repeat!

This is standard IR play, any study of US carriers and the IR strategies show this nexus clearly. Even US carriers are changing the way they view pilots. Given carriers in the ME and Asia are screaming for qualified pilots will it dawn on Australian IR that demographics drive the market and the more they try to screw the pilots the more qualified pilots look at other options..Getting a pilot's licence at the required standard is a time consuming and expensive business. Pilots sadly in Australia are looking overseas. A career path is all most pilots ever really wanted and fair reward for the cost and time taken to secure those skills.. :=

Was this part of the differed order? 321NEO will be quite handy in this market.

When do A321LR's start getting built? Wont this put quite a dent in the 787 market?

The Singapore fleet will need to be replaced.

Vietnam are now sourcing aircraft via their own means.

Can't see Japan growing to 50 aircraft.

Watching with interest...

Apparently according to the local refueler is that QF will be announcing A319NEO to replace the B717, A320 NEO to replace B738's and A321NEO's to replace the A330's and increase the frequency, while the B788's are given back to QF and A350's ordered for JQ

QF is still sourcing B717's so doubt they are on the way out, really don't feel like the A319 is needed. A350's for Jetstar? No LCC anywhere is using the A350

Which is probably why JQ will get A350s :)

I have it on good authority those 321 Neos are for QF. They are 767 replacements for the gates the 330s don't fit.

Still plenty of new 320 Neos (54) for the JQ boys to play with.

Boeing won't be too happy?! 110 aircraft? Can they really utilize that many?!

Not sure what are you smoking but this is the first time i heard that 321s can be 767 replacements. 312neoLR might make sense but even then its a cut on capacity

Alan will need another crisis to lever down the wonder team at AIPA before an A320 ever is in mainline colours.

As I mentioned on another thread, the JQ offshore strategy is a joke and their accounting is so opaque as to make it unreadable. It is Alan and Leigh's grand vision orange to the world, but it doesn't make any money. Rumour has it finally that Bruce told them so and was sent on gardening leave.

As for the A320 replacement drama it will be preceded by a crisis manufactured or otherwise (terminal decline anyone?) and the pressure applied that Jetconnect, Network, Qantas Link, Cobham, the Botswana second XI et al will fly it unless the pilots trade away their first born children to fly it...

With the contracts on offer in Asia as supply shortage really bites, a good commuting contract may well scuttle the Oldmeadow inspired game..

Sadly pilots fall for the three card trick every time...and the union representing the pilots is hardly inspiring.

I'm guessing that the source of that rumour was Bruce. He was the architect of the Darwin base debacle as well as the A330 Singapore base which cost a lot more than was prepared to be forgiven by the wielders of the axe. He was well and truly on board with the Jetstar franchise going off shore. BTW that number of 110 Airbi (plural of Airbus) has been bandied about since 2008 when it was used as a carrot to get the F/O's to agree to the EBA. The statement was along the lines of: (cue chart showing 110 deliveries in 3 years) "All these aircraft have been ordered and must be delivered so every F/O in the airline now will have a command in 3 years." How do you know a CP is lying.......

Any strengthening of the rumours within QF regarding the possibility of the 320/321 neo's being the likely replacement for the 737 at QF when they come?

Australian Aviation 23rd of February:

In terms of fleet developments, previously Qantas had targeted first delivery of the 99 Airbus A320neo (new engine option) family aircraft the airline group has on order from the end of calendar 2017. The order is for 54 A320neo and 45 of the larger A321neo.

I don't know a lot about the 350 but it does seem that these 321 Neo's in particular are the bees knees. They're talking about 20% less fuel burn on a per seat basis, partly because they can fit more seats.

350's may well be great but smaller and lighter does seem like the latest thing.

That's my ill informed two cents anyway.

350 is completely different to a 321......

I wouldn't be surprised to see QF mainline go A320/321 - it seems like an aircraft whose time has definitely come. The ULD baggage loading alone makes a large difference in these days of minimal turn times and minimal manning levels. The 737 holds are also a real WHS problem by today's standards - they kill knees and backs and that's very much the company's problem in this day and age.
