A Thai Airways 777 flew over Sunshine at only 1000 feet.
THAI Airways is the latest airline to fly too low into Melbourne Airport, triggering a safety investigation.

The pilots at the helm of a Boeing 777 are believed to have descended to 1000 feet over Sunshine, at which point the aircraft was half the altitude it should have been.

It's also 1000 feet lower than Tiger's low-go into Melbourne on June 7, and 600 feet lower than Tiger's low pass into Avalon on June 30, which triggered the airline's grounding the next day.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has launched an investigation into the inbound Thai flight, which originated in Bangkok.

According to the bureau, it flew too low on approach to Melbourne at 8.19pm last Sunday, which it described as a ''serious incident''.
