"What we're doing is offering fruit to every child that comes into a McDonald's, so it is an automatic," Jan Fields, the company's president, said Tuesday in an appearance on Good Morning America. "We recognize the importance of fruit in a child's diet."

While I'm real "happy" for my grandkids I still enjoy a Big Mac once a month (usually with my son). I remember the Macs being one of the great new foods in the 60's after returning from Nam.

Apart from the Mac the next best fast food is a New York dog!

I do some food styling in my line of work - but the one who put that Big Mac together must have been a magician because the last one I had sure didn't look like that! Anyway, glad you enjoyed yours after serving in Vietnam.

But what is that slop on the NY dog?

I don't know about the substitution of fruit. Is it better to take a kid to McD's once a week for the burger and fruit.....or once a month or so for a burger and fries? I can't see any kid eating fruit after getting the fries. What I'm saying - kids should be getting their best nutrition at home -
save the once a month or so burger and fries as a treat.

We go to MacDonald's most Saturday mornings and my four year old has 4 chicken nuggets, chocolate milk or water and Apple... She might eat the really crispy crumbs from my fries but not often. She 41" tall and trying desperately to break into a solid 32lbs... MacDonald's don't do any harm whatsoever to kids, their parents do though.

Fruit in Macdonalds happy meals, whatever next.

I heard it best summed up with a quote my wife told me, 'going to Macdonalds for a salad is a bit like going to a hooker for a hug'.
