View Full Version : "Speeding pilot at fault" - Times of India

LH762/21Jul MUCDEL appears to have turned up TOTALLY unexpectedly at the threshold of 11-29 and frightened the pants off of all concerned, including the Jet Airways crew who had take-off clearance, but hadn't started rolling.

Appears the LH pilot was at fault - speeding, it appears - and turned up a couple of minutes earlier than expected.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is taking actions against the pilot.

Fine piece of journalism (http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-07-23/delhi/29807077_1_new-runway-lufthansa-flight-lufthansa-aircraft) from Neha Lalchandani

Fine piece of journalism
Hardly! No mention that if ATC wasn't so inadequate they would have issued a speed limit OR vectored the aircraft additional miles. Pilots are not asked to turn up at a "certain time" for landing for crying out loud. Plus at 7 miles and 180Kts, as long as you are on the Glide Slope it is easy to drop gear and flaps, thus being completely stable by 1,000ft. Note, at 7 miles aircraft should be around 2300ft above the runway.

Indians passing the buck again!

there is no use reading into these reports about aviation incidents from these journos

i almost freaked out when a news channel credited the return of an aircraft to the field after engine fire to bunch of punks partying on terrace with a view that they called the police who in turn contacted the pilots and told them that they have an engine fire....
there is limit to stupidity ........:*

Wrong. There seems to be no limit !

Just when you think they have set the benchmark for stupidity and moronic journalism, ... they surpass themselves !! :D

quite a ridiculous article.

having said that, DEL has a laid down requirement for 210kt till 10, and 180 till 6, if i'm correct.
and, its not quite Euro control. so maybe airmanship has to play a part as well.

20 to 10...180 knots. 10 to 6....160

however was told to maintain published limits when at 13000 feet and 30 miles...what is published for this???

Probably because you are right on 30 nm (although I doubt the controller was that sharp...), at 30nm to 20nm its 220kts, Jepp page 10-1p8 in mixed mode and 30-15nm its 220kt if under 10 000ft when under radar control ...but its just confusing as if you are mixed mode you are under radar control, so then doesnt it only apply to under 10 000ft only as per the info on 10-1p9...

I follow the local way, 330kts until told otherwise! (joking)

But seriously the other night into VOMM a Indigo flight couldnt understand why we were maintaining 210kts at the end of the arrival where you get vectored to final ...because its on the STAR fools and we were all perfectly 10nm apart ! and we were all told to comply with the restrictions...can you not read!

Got you boys some 360 degree turn practice for your inability to read and play by the rules, and you had the hide to abuse the controller, shame on you!

There is also speed limits published stating for cat B aircraft:30-15NM, 220 knots below 10000ft and 15 miles EXCLUDING final approach track maintain 140 knots.

Is this to say that being vectored over the top of the VOR we are supposed to maintain 140 knots when they are clearly vectoring traffic out thirty miles before turning them to final approach track?

Cant believe we have to fly for sixty miles with flaps deployed.

What can you expect from a country operating under regulations that were written when Pilots Heads hung outside of the plane, landed on dirt and had no radios.
They are operating in the same system that the British taught them in WW1 and WW2. The local experts and teachers do not know all the answers on the DGCA Written Test, they are as confused as you.
Example from memory:
You can not take a picture in or around an airport or from a plane in an airport.
next paragrah:
You can take a picture in or around an airport or from a plane in an airport, as long as it is not with a camera aparatus. :ooh:
So you can take all the pictures you want, just do not use a camera!!

When you visit the tower, wich you or your handler must to depart an airport with a tower on it, you will see a time capsule from WW2. Same desk, same giant porcelan phone, no computers, no fax machines.

There is only 2 radar coverage areas; Delhi and Mumbai, position reporting for everwhere else. The ATC that you are talking to is moving little wooden planes around on a wooden table (vintage WW2).

TCAS is a must and is part of the Primary scan even in radar contact.

Must have been since WWII last time you've flown in India. Radar all the what from VOMM to VIDP. No issues.

Silly piLot you really need to get out there... The majority of South America, anf Africa if your beef is about lack of radar coverage. R/T? Try France and Spain with their bi-lingual communications in TMAs in crappy weather.
