According to Fokker Services, Oz mining is behind some ageing Fokkers' new positions. What's the root of this affair with old ladies? Can't get my head around the lack of fresh new flying talent,

When you could pick up a F100 for a few million US$, why would you buy a brand new jet with underslung engines, less cargo etc. (eg EMB190), massive lease costs or major expenditure to buy outright???

717 can't compete in hot and high, plus they are such a heavier aircraft for not many more seats. Also an orphan with Boeing shutting down production.

There is not much in the 100 seat market out there to compete, perhaps as mines get larger and FIFO becomes more important we will see a shift to larger aircraft like A320s. But then again, I don't believe Strategic Aviation found much love in the mining community for their A320s. Otherwise they wouldn't be embarking on RPT.

Bigger aircraft = bigger airport = more money

those extra millions on an upgraded strip buys a lot of charters and flexibility.
The pcn to acn for fokkers and their solid performance on remote ops speaks for itself...

Well isn't the Fokker an "orphan" as well?

What is the difference in weight between 717 and F100 AND the difference in payload?

Bigger aircraft = bigger airport = more money

Skywest operate an A320 into YFDF. Was much work required on the strip for this operation?

Edited to add: Boeing built 156 of the 717. Fokker built 283 of the 100s. Also add the previous incarnations of the 717.

I didn't think the 717 was payload limited out of any ports with the 21 k engines. It's certainly not out of any of the North and eastern ports, including Alice and The Rock, even on a 50 degree day. Bloggs, how about out west?
