Air India has recruited 62 Trainee Pilots from IGRUA today.

Not surprised at all :hmm:

Question
How did you find out ?

Next Question
Were they recruited to fly the 737 for AIX or the A320 for IC due to the exodus of pilots
Or maybe even the 777 :E

Heard it from some friends in AI. Mostly for the 777 to replace the 777 F/Os moving to the 787.

I think these guys were from the 2010 campus recruitment conducted by Air India
Since those selected back then were still not given offer letters

Yup. They are from the 2010 campus recruitment. There is also a rumor that AI might come out with an opening for ab-initio soon.

Ab-Initio = CPL ( No rating )

:):):):)

Seriously? don't think so......internal problems are way bigger right now in AI.Hope recruitment for new ab-initio does not end as another 2009 repeat:(:(

Anything is possible with AI ;).

14th Jul 2011, 17:51
Yeah that's TRUE. These are from August 2010 Batch and are for 777's. Lucky chaps.!

flyjet787
14th Jul 2011, 18:19
Well yeah. They got a Job in the current scenario without having to compete with thousands of unemployed pilots. So yeah they are lucky for that.

But mind you the 777 is not an ideal jet aircraft to start your career. Most of AI 777 flights are Ultra Long Haul with 4 crew ops.All these new guys will do is just sit on the right seat in cruise and handle the RT. That's it. You really won't learn much. Forget about any hands on flying experience they will hardly ever get to do a landing or T/O.

But yeah they are extremely lucky to get a Job without much competition in the current scenario.

And they dont have to pay for type rating :ugh:

IFRUA guys have this privilege but they do sacrifice 3 years to get upto this level with headwind from all fronts. This pilots waited almost a year now so they deserve it.

On the other hand anything is possible in AI...first make a recruitment panel then select privilege lots( Kins of uncle aunties/Politicians kids ) then dissolve the panel of selection based on fraud for a year. After all this mess call those who got selected for interview and place them on widebodies .....that's AI recruitment.€:(:(

AI bonds their pilots with heavy bonds with 5-7 yearly term+ post dated cheque and charges almost 27-30 lakh's divided monthly for training from salary.Leave the job and pay them post dated cheque's that was submitted while joining.:ouch::ouch:

Have AI stopped charging for TR now?

flyjet787
14th Jul 2011, 19:31
They still recover 25 lakhs for training over 5 yrs from the salary. The bond is for 5 yrs after you get released and if you break the bond at any point you still pay 25 lakhs. The bond amount doesn't depreciate.

Well atleast you dont have to pay anything upfront

I believe the time period in IGRUA has been reduced from 3 years to 18months or maybe even a year due to plenty of airplanes

Johny Boy
14th Jul 2011, 20:01
Paying upfront is way better then getting paid in peanuts considering we will have to spend 20+15 Lakhs for being Online.

So paying 15 upfront is better than waiting for salary for months and then getting pay after deduction of almost 50%.

36 months or 18 months still they have to face DGCA/WPC/AF Medicals which can eat up atleast a year.Plus the training cost is way bigger than non IGRUA one's.

Its a jackpot that few lucky ones get and its all well deserving for this pilots.

Upfront or later completely depends on a particular individuals situation. If some one has already taken a loan of say 20-25 lakhs for CPL training it would be difficult/risky for them to take another loan of 15-20 lakhs for TR.
And the salary deduction for 25 lakhs over 5 yrs would be about 40K a month. That is more like 20-25% of the salary not 50%.

Johny Boy

True but if your on a firm offer with nicely written contract you can afford upfront rather than wait for monthly deducted pay which is not anymore monthly incase of AI,its 2 months delay pay for AI pilots.
In anycase upfront is always risky without a firm confirmation like Jet gives and not be fooled by the likes of Spice/KFA.

Congrats for the guys selected!!
ok I had a question is the rate in India for the cessna 172 and the multi the same in IGRUA also.
Like 8500-9000 for the single and 35000 for the Multi in India or is it less??

vivekh
15th Jul 2011, 07:16
@Torque Skylon

I think the rate is more - they do not have Cessnas. They used to have Zlins & TB20s for single engine flying and the King Air C90 for multi engine flying. Now they are progressively replacing the fleet with Diamond DA40s for SE and DA42 for ME. These cost more than Cessnas per hour, almost 10k/hr for SE and 35K/hr for ME.

Are you planning on joining for a CPL or planning on going there for a recency or renewal?

@ vivekh

I am a CPL holder I was just curious to know the rates.
Its too expensive doing flying in India, both single and Multi and also the extra time.
Instead save the money for TR.
But of course doing TR at the RIGHT time is very important.

Latest rumor is that the IGRUA guys have been put on hold now. They have been told that there are 100 pilots in training in AI and once some of the backlog is cleared they will be inducted. They finished all the formalities like medical etc. but their joining date I think has been postponed. Did anyone else her anything about this??
