Ad in the aviation section of today's The Australian newspaper. It's a Virgin Australia advertisement wanting crewing clerks. Now read this awful example of weasel words and corporate psychobabble in a expensive ad for a suitably qualified clerk.
Quote:

"Virgin Australia is again changing the face of the Australian aviation landscape. This is a unique opportunity to play an integral role in shaping the evolution of this iconic brand, and to become a part of a dynamic company that genuinely believes and demonstrates our people are our greatest asset.

We are seeking a number of highly motivated, proactive and reslient individuals to join our energetic and professional Network Operations team.

Opportunities now exist to join the Brisbane based Virgin Australia team in the role of Crew Controller. This role will see you responsible for researching and implementing solutions to complicated logistical challenges within a fast paced, high pressure environment.

In this exciting and dynamic role you will plan and coordinate the movement of crew to ensure schedule integrity and regulatory compliance, manage network disruption through the implementation of efficient solutions and ensure an unparalleled commitment to safety, team work and guest satisfaction.

Previous experience within a fast paced, high pressure operations centre, coupled with exposure to complex logistical environments using advanced software applications will be highly advantageous."
Unquote: YUK!

............................................................ ..........................................

Maybe the on-going volcanic ash disruption of schedules has taken its toll of the old crew controllers unable to cope with implementing solutions to complicated logistical challenges within a fast paced high pressure environment?

Virgin Australia must have money to burn if they can afford to pay big bucks for such an exaggerated weasel words advertisement for crewing clerks.

A sign of the times I'm afraid, with the ad no doubt written by a HR person.

I have seen jobs for pilots with a PD including items such as -

checks weather pre-flight
conducts external inspection pre-flight
makes decisions regarding progress of flight

........yada, yada, yada.

I'd suggest that HR people have little or no idea (and I'm leaning heavily towards no idea) of what our job involves, but rather than ask a pilot to write a PD, they employ their "creative writing" skills.

Not as bad as the Taxation Dept's advice to Airline Pilots. You can claim on flying lessons! Well the way things are going, with 200 hrs F/O's perhaps its not a bad thing!

Borgetti sails in"Don't tell me boats"what a joke......spend,spend,spend,yep that's it,that's answer........now has anyone got Sir Richards number, might need to borrow a couple! What's with these corporate dudes that jump from sinkin ship to sinkin ship, how do so many good people who go to work each day,go above and beyond, only because that seems normal, why then are they at the mercy of management, why not let them control its destiny, and build from the ground floor up,instead of jumping from the top first......good luck all, tough times ahead for Qf and Vb..........

howyoulikethat - That was quite the sentence!

As for the ad, I thought it was common knowledge that HR types get paid per adjective...

Apart from too much emphasis on the 'fast paced, high pressure' bit and some wanky advertising for the Virgin brand, it's not that bad - seems to set out the expectations well enough.

They could cut out a few words, but barring the above-mentioned padding, the language is fairly clear.
