Morning All,

I understand there was a return to Manchester of G-MARA (ZB534) shortly after takeoff on Friday due to a hydraulic and reverse thrust failure.

Does anyone have any more information? I have checked the usual places but nothing reported.

Thanks.

What more do you seek? Captain's name, tech log entry, pax loads, subsequent delay?

Thanks for the reply, I just wondered what the actual issues with the plane were and if it was an emergency return or routine.

Tech log entry would be interesting if available.

From your PM and the apparent 'different stories' I would go with what the Captain told you. He/she would be best placed to know! It could be as simple as a reverser unlocked problem which would prompt a return and would probably trigger an 'emergency' response in the ATC rule book. Someone from Monarch may pop by with more.

Thank you for your offensive reply Topspotter, Im pleased not to be in the company of your sources if this is how they talk. It was the crew that informed me of such information.

There is no need to be offensive to a newcomer. Please show a little understanding.

Now that TS has calmed down I will point KP at this (http://www.pprune.org/archive/index.php/t-334100.html) which may help to translate from the Greek and a Google of LGCIU should satisfy any remaining enquiries.

Great answer BOAC, it was the LGCIU 1 at fault which gave a GPWS and a Thrust Reverser message.
The a/c was already operating with a brake locked out, due to a leak found earlier in the day. So not to delay a/c with a brake change, it was decided to lock it out and change it that night.
However due to messages after departure and the likely hood of a/c being stuck down route, due no Thrust Reverser and Brake locked out, decision to return taken.
Hope this clears up the earlier ranting. :=

Thank you all for the helpful and informative replies. It would appear then it was more a routine unscheduled landing as opposed an "emergency"

Thanks again.

I was a passenger on this flight, there was an emergency landing but we were not told to go into the position although the force of the landing flung us into this position
We were informed due to technical difficulties half way into the flight we had to return to Manchester
An engineers van held up the flight for reasons unknown to us before take off
Some of the passengers were panicking
We were informed we had to fly with the landing gear down to help use up fuel, this I found worrying, we landed without it seemed to me any deceleration or reversal thrust
we also flew very low over fields at the time I thought they must be checking the landing gear
We appeared to land on a runway not normally used, there were a fleet of emergency services with flashing lights waiting then on landing chasing behind the plane, we drove ovver bridges to get to the ternminal there was a grating rotating noise as we coasted
I have flown many times but never landed at such speed and force as this flight
The sound of breaks were deafening, the men in front of me was upset and said the left engine flashed on landing, after a long wait for the emergency services to catch up with us we were escorted back to terminal one, we were told that the fire trucks were normal in this situation
I have no idea what was wrong but would like to commend the captain for a job well done
It did appear when we given another flight some passengers had decided not to continue with there travel
