Now may be the time to get pilots on side, rather than off! The Vietnam era pilots of America and their big boom time of the late sixties and early seventies are approaching 65. No-one, except for Jetstar of curse (deliberate):yuk:, has been investing in pilot training. Please, this time be real!:D

Been saying the same for years.

After the Wrights flew, every generation faced a war that required large numbers of military pilots until the Viet Nam conflict; that was the last time that huge numbers of pilots were turned out by the US military. The figure of eight times the number during the war compared with 1994 rings a bell. As a military instructor in the eighties in Australia, I recall large, empty student accommodation buildings at RAAF Pearce, built- you guessed it- during the Viet Nam War.

When America sneezes, the rest of the pilot-demanding world will catch pneumonia.

Bring it on.

apparently thousands of UAV pilots are completing their RSO and are looking for work..

..most are fully militarily trained to expertly land in up to 25kt crosswind from a distance of 9000Nm in real time. The ability to aquire targets using the Maverick AGM from FL600' will make them experts with modern avionics. This is just in time due to most of the worlds airforces being grounded due to bugetary reasons.

No offence, but shouldn't current pilots be advocating for a complete lack of investment in pilot training. That would create a shortage and drive wages up??

:ok:

I agree completely, and nobody is investing with the GFC etc. Things are slowly coming to a head and hopefully, if the world pilot body does come to a place with bargaining power, the first thing they'll be after is better conditions which will then in turn further push against the supply side of the equation.:p
