This is a question in the JAA question bank which I am struggling to figure out as the correct answer is given as "the bottom"

I remember seeing a video of a simulated scenario in a wind tunnel experiment but I cannot find it anywhere.......

If any one knows or has literature/pictures please help.....

I think that when the JAA and other authorities devise such asinine questions one is obliged to give them the most factually accurate answer which, in this case, could be:

A: The short shaft connecting the tail rotor to its gearbox! :E

The fact is there are numerous possibles. What a ridiculously open-ended question. Are these guys trying to help test your understadning of aerodynamics or simply befuddle you? :ugh:

What are the other answer choices, out of interest?

simply befuddle you? :ugh:..............exactly
Maybe one day when I win the Euro Lotto I'll take it on to clean it all up :E

These are the 4 possible answers
top
bottom
advancing side
retreating side
and this is the video I was talking about that quite clearly shows the smoke trail going through the bottom half more...at the end of the videoYouTube - ‪Main Rotor tip vortices‬‏
