Flyer from YMMB received about enforcement action regarding ASICs starting in July.

Please note that the lanyards CASA gave you give you a 50% chance of getting fined as they revolve in the breeze. The ASIC has to be visible, it is not enough to have it around your neck, as the flyer helpfully explains.

To me it appears that DOTARS or whoever they are, are annoyed that Pilots seem to be treating these cards as silly when operating in what they consider to be low threat areas in their own patch.

The bureaucratic solution therefore is to take enforcement action against pilots for not displaying what they already have been forced to purchase. I still remember the poor apprentice bailed up on his bicycle by these heavily armed thugs.

My guess is that they will issue Ten fines to pilots for not displaying for every soul they catch with no ASIC or AVID at all.

YMMB used to only have a blue box around the Tarmac for King Island Airlines, but a year or so ago the whole airport was upgraded to security controlled, god knows why. Essendon used to have the blue box too, but presumably they are also in ASIC land now.

If they want it to be face out ALL the time, then why supply a lanyard with a SWIVEL for a start. Why on a lanyard if meant to be ALWAYS displayed face out, surely supply it with a clip only if thats the case ?

I slip my a/c fuel card in the reverse side for safe keeping, is this illegal too ?

1.04 What properly displaying means
(1) For these Regulations, somebody is properly displaying an
ASIC or VIC only if it is attached to his or her outer clothing:
(a) above waist height; and
(b) at the front or side of his or her body; and
(c) with the whole front of the ASIC or VIC clearly visible.

(2) He or she is not properly displaying the ASIC or VIC if
anything adhering to it obscures a photograph or anything else
on it.

Yes they even have a regulation that says how you have to wear your ASIC. Now THAT is anal.

Buy a sweat band, glue the ASIC to the band.
Wear band on head with ASIC in the middle of forhead.
If you wanted to go whole hog, get some little red LED
flashing red lights to go round the border of the card.

I reckon you could take them on at sub section 2 of the regs as the little foil strip or kinegram partially obscures the photo.

No such thing as an "approved holder and please would everyone stop referring to CASA regarding ASICs as they have no jurisdiction at all over compliance. :ugh:. They merely issue the damn things albeit more ineptly than most other issuing bodies.
I can't think of anywhere in CARs, CASRs, CAOs etc where you will find any reference to ASIC. CASAs responsibility for ASIC ends at the point where they confirm you have, or have applied for an ASIC / AVID before processing your FCL.

Just looked at their service level targets for issuing ASICs. 42 days :eek: and the best they can achieve is 86%. If my ASICs were taking that long to process and issue I would be asking some serioius questions.

I might try a little experiment this week along the line of Thorn Bird's suggestion. I'll let you know how it goes.:}

Pretty detailed description with the heading FRONT.
