Okay this only applies to UK citizens.

So has anyone here been successful at obtaining a professional career development loan for flight training (modular). I was recently at a flight school and chatted with an instructor who was certain that if you needed funding for CPL, the career development agency will consider you for a loan. As the CPL can technically be classed as a course that could result in employment as a pilot. Any thoughts on the matter would be much appreciated.

Hi there, I recently got a career development loan to help fund my modular CPL/IR course and am aware that a few of my fellow students have also used them to help fund their course. The Coop Bank and Barclays both offer them but in my experience I found that the Coop Bank's application process was much more straight forward than the Barclay's process. (For example with my Coop application I only needed to send off the application and no supporting documents but with Barclays I would have also had to send a utility bill, certified bank statements etc).
You need to make sure that the school you choose is registered with the Young People's Learning agency in order to be eligable to receive the loan.
Hope this helps.

Last time I had a look at the government website about CDL, one of the 'example' stories was a pilot who borrowed to get their FI(R) rating.
