No, this is not about the old new business class.

It becomes clearer every day that Tony Tyler's conservative expansion strategy was a big big mistake. If a small airline like HK Airlines can add so much capacity to the market it clearly shows TT underestimated the potential big time, plus he allowed a competitor to get his foot in the door. If you then look at who else is increasing their flights to HKG lately it is actually quite scary.

We really missed the boat. Let's hope JS is more on the ball.

Fair point regarding the Financial crisis. But in the end it did not have the big impact CX's management thought it would have, and Asia's market is stronger than ever now with huge growth numbers. Emirates flies now to 27(!) destinations in Europe alone ( CX six incl Moscow), many of their passengers do not have Dubai as final destination.
Why do we not have the aircrafts today ( and crew) to fly to places like Manchester,Munich,Berlin,Madrid,Istanbul, etc ? What about Africa and South America ? Or Mexico City, Miami, Atlanta?

Jizzmonkey,

Too agressive you say??? You have absolutely no clue!!!!

During the crisis TT did what he had to do in order to make the numbers look as favourably as possiblte during his tenure purely to maximize his bonus. He didn't give 2 f%$ks about Cathay's long term strategy.

Ceasing all upgrades, freezing recruitment, making sim instructors redundant, and parking airplanes much too soon was a monumental f$%k up. Even before the crisis they were playing catch up, now they are so far behind their only hope is a change to AFTLs.

This isn't the first time Cathay has weathered a financial crisis, they keep repeating the same mistake over and over. I have yet to see a more inept management.
