View Full Version : Tracing WWII aircrew casualties?

I am fairly certain that a while back someone posted a link to a searchable database of RAF casualties, or perhaps it was just Bomber Command? A computer fault lost my bookmarks and, search as I may, I now cannot find it on here. Googling only gives me a National Archives site - which fails to find "my" man.

(I'm trying to find the circumstances surrounding the death in 1940 of a LAC u/t observer whose lonely grave is in a Shropshire Churchyard, with a view to perhaps placing an explanatory plaque nearby for the information of future generations).

Can anyone give me a steer?

You might find this site helpful RafCommands Forums (http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/index.php)

Click on "Useful books and research materials" or ask your question on their main forum.

I'm pretty sure I can help with this, or at least a friend with an encyclopaedic knowledge of Shropshire RAF casualties should be able to! PM me with your email address.

Thanks for the links, that hopefully I will manage to retain this time.

In fact, AtchamTower has kindly put some effort into researching this for me. It would seem - still to be confirmed - that my man was most likely killed in some mundane event, not whilst on flying duty.

Thanks for your interest.

There is a site: RAFWEB, which has a 'members area' in addition to lots of free space. The members area gives access to a listing of RAF personnel who have died in service. At present the records are up to end-1942.
