Announced friday that JQ have contracted Parc to crew its' next 2 A330's to be based in Singapore, one arriving October then December. These are not 3K aircraft, they are JQ SIN bases.

Should cheer everyone up a bit more.

And at the behest of the Qantas Group, the PARC contract will include a seemingly innocuous clause with words to the effect,
"the contractor will, when directed by the agency crew any aircraft operated by the Qantas Group".
They are the new strike breakers.

Irish company, but has contracts with various airlines al around the world.

I wouldn't overreact too much to this move by JQ at this stage. With JQI's desired crew cost model, the use of crewing companies is not sustainable in the long term.

Crewing companies are basically 'rent takers'. They supply a crew member to an airline, then sit back and allow said airline to roster and administer the individual pilot.

They charge the airline between 20%-40% loading on the pilots salary.

So if the contract advertises A330 Capts for 10K US per month, then they are charging JQ between 12-14K USD per month.

Quality control of contract pilots is an issue. Training and compliance costs are still the same as a regular guy / girl

They will get some pilots at that money, but not enough to roll 2800 JQ / QF guys in a short period of time.

They will be lucky to get Capts at $10,000 a month. Added to the 20-40% loading mentioned above, contract pilots generally receive fully-funded serviced accommodation. They are not a cheap option, generally only utilised when there is a genuine crew shortage.

I think the first lot were going to be crewed by Parc also, until they found enough "lifestylers" from within putting their hands up.

Not sure what these lifestylers think they'll be doing for a job when they want to come back. Having just helped the company export their own job offshore.:rolleyes:

Bah ... $10,000 is the going rate for a contract A330 F/O not a captain ... check out Vietnam or Korean ... and those are part time commuting contracts!

$10,000 for doing the lo-co grind and based in an expensive place like Singapore, no way Jose. Sure there's some homesick Singapore boys who left Silk Air or Tiger for some widebody time in the sandpit in last couple of years and now they realized the error of their ways and miss Singapore, they'll probably apply ... but the general fraternity of A330 contract captains won't be too excited unless they put another $3 or $4 grand on the table minimum

Ahh yes, the 'lifestylers', or those who had 'shiny jet syndrome' so badly they are having to home school their kids because they don't have the money to send them to school on the pathetic wages being paid.

The next JQ A330 will be 9V rego, on a new Jetstar Asia AOC. JQ have limited access with VH rego on the SIN-AKL route before it has to go 9V, still expect VH rego on SIN-MEL for the time being.
