I have notived over the last few months how much Anti- Qantas threads there are . Now that is ok in a democrtaic country we live in . And , good luck to you all , for being so militant on cyberspace .
But , then I had the thought ( yes I get the odd one ) why are these workers doing this !
Biting the hand that feeds them ( in some cases very well ) so I looked deeper .
Now as an old Trade Unionist , i thoght i might enquire as to what the real workers are up to . And , funilly enough the cleaners , the trades assistants , the labouerers , the office cleaners are just working away .
It is this group of workers though , the ones that really need the help of Trade Unions , will be the ones that suffer , lose their jobs , families suffer , if QF Internatuional goes to the wall.
The "workers "at the bottom of the pile have never had any support from the Ėlite "the Prima Donnas of the Industry . No , just shove that lot further down the queue on staff travel, so you can get on ahead. '
When did the Pilots or LAMES last log Qantas to improve the lot of the low paid workers in the Company?
I will tell you never !
SO , continue to think how ahard you re done by , just think about he female cleaner , cleaning the Qf aircraft you board as a 747 Captain . You are on i guess $400,000 pa she about $40,000.
Yes, you will give me all the stuff about responsibility , training etc , but does she pay less for housing than you? less than food for you? less for energy than you ?
NO.
You are the privilleged , who HAVE been given the training at COMPANY EXPENSE . Unions have done well by you . NOW , spare a thought for those with less fortunate circumstances , before you wreck the joint , and destroy their lives. ( not bothered about yours ).

Just a thought!

If the clowns at Coward Street that pay your consultants fees get their way, we'll all be on less than the cleaners anyway Unionist1974 :suspect:

While that is all true about the lower paid workers, I wasn't aware any pilots, engineers or whatever were hoping to send their employer to the wall. In fact, if there were a PCRuNE (Professional Cleaners Ru... etc etc) I'm sure they would be concerned that their previously successful company is now seen to be fighting for life.

I'm not an insider, but even for someone looking in it appears the major beef is that while "everything is on the table" to save money, jobs and the company - a change in management style, composition and/or salary is out of the question.

This is a national icon, everyone wants it to succeed. It's hard to ask for much more from the personnel when the management won't give an inch however.

Unionist 1974 is a known troll. End of story. Please close the thread. Nothing useful can come out of this.

Really mate that the best you can do?

IF THESE "CLEANERS" WANT MY PAY THEN BY ALL MEANS TRAIN TO BE A PILOT.:)

I worked my way up from humble beginnings through blood sweat and plenty of tears to finally get to my position. And paid for the training myself, most guys if they do manage to join an Airline do so with a LOT of debt.

What stopped him/her from bettering themselves?

No aspirations when they were 16 years old perhaps?? Bad choices?

Most Pilots are self made men/women that weren't born with a silver spoon in their mouths mate.:suspect:

So instead of trying to "bring us down to your pay level" why don't you try and bring theirs up a bit?

I see the tall poppie jealous syndrome is alive and kicking still:ugh:

I have notived over the last few months how much Anti- Qantas threads there are .

This is different to what I have noticed u1974. My perception is of people who are actually very pro-Qantas and very angry with a management that they perceive is greedy, under-handed and self serving.
From reading, most of the posters have many, many proud years with Qantas and are disillusioned with what they see as a bloated, wasteful structure that hampers them from doing their jobs properly and then attempts to place the blame at their doorstep.
Have another read u1974. If you can't see this, the problem is with you.
The passion is still there, it just needs some forward thinking managers to re-engage the workforce. The people there didn't willingly become disengaged, and from their posts don't wish to be disengaged, disillusioned and angry.

you will find the cleaners and so called 'lower paid staff" are NOT QF staff. but employees of various contractor companies. and a QF capt on $400K HAHAHAHA you have been reading the papers again....

have you stopped to think about why all the negativity towards QF? maybe its the way they treat their staff? or their customer base? or just how they do business in general that generates so much vitriol.

Firstly , I welcome debate , to often it is shut down , I think that is wrong .
Ah Sunfish , true to your Stallinist past you want to shut me up ( or worse ? ) because i do not agree with you. My opinion , is just that and I am an independant thinker not in the pay of anyone .

Have to agree with you unionist, you're 100% correct...

For far too long senior management has not looked after those further down the chain than themselves... They should be ashamed of themselves!

How dare they sit around their board rooms, drinking champagne and laughing at us, as they count their millions in bonuses, while the cleaners, caterers, etc, etc, enjoy none of the profits which they have helped generate!

Let's share the wealth around with all the Qantas staff and stop the rorting which goes in excessive bonuses and pay packets! Here, here!:D

"When did the Qantas Pilots LAMES try to log Qantas to improve the lot of the low paid workers"

Huh? It's not their job to do. Don't these workers have a Union of their own?

Absolutely. Many Qantas ground workers are horrified at the way the company is going and many more are uncertain about their future. That includes rampies, cleaners, caterers et al. In the bigger ports at least these are not all contracted positions. Q Catering still employs thousands of people, as do the Ramp Services and Customer Service departments. Qantas has many ordinary workers who are proud to tell people they work for Qantas and by and large work hard and effectively for the airline.

The company has generally repayed all that by shafting them, threatening them with lay-offs and contractors every time there's a ticket sales drop (which is hardly the fault of the ground workers), failing to support them in the press (particularly the baggies) and generally treating the whole lot like three-day old prawn shells. Any crap the pilots and/or engineers fling at other Qantas staff pales into insignificance when compared to the crap that's spouted daily by Qantas management poppets.

If you think it's only pilots and engineers that are concerned about Qantas management then you need to get out and talk to a few more Qantas workers. They are singing from the same song sheet, some of them right here on PPRuNe.

The Mods must be asleep at the wheel. They close threads like this faster than Superman can clean a plane:E

Lets everybody work for $40K a year, pilots, cleaners & CEO's, then there would be no arguing:-)

Wally why do you have a problem with people with an opposite view to yourself . Or are we only supposed to sing from the one hymm sheet . Please allow for debate, if you cannot win it here, forget any where else .Win by debate not by shutting down.
