Morning all,

I was discussing aircraft wake turbulence with a friend and am wondering if it has ever caused any proven damage to buildings under the approach into airfields, particualrly in the UK?

Had a quick look via Google and there seems to be some general info but I couldn't see any specific incidents.

Cheers

There was a 146 going into Southampton a few years back that managed to lift a dozen or so tiles off a roof and dump them in the front garden.

I have a dim memory that down the years there have been one or two incidents of damage to houses in Hounslow from approaches into Heathrow. I also have a feeling that a small wake turbulence incident damaged some property in Manchester once. Sorry to be so unspecific.

Chaps, many thanks for your responses. :ok:

I've found a tiny snippet about minor damage to a house close to Southampton allegedly caused by a 146 several years ago.

At LHR, walking from BA's 'Braincrank' to the curry take-away near Mornington Crescent. we used to pass by some houses which were on late Finals for 09R. Quite a few of them had a 'patchwork' pattern of roof tiles and IIRC the residents were, eventually, provided with subsidised re-tiling.

Hi treadigraph i remember this from about a year ago. Minor damage though but still curious all the same.

Overloaded IL-76s regularly blew tiles off roofs on properties near to Ostend airport some years ago. Happened at Maastricht too - and they got banned!
