To put it in perspective, Wasaya AW in N. Canada are still operating the aircraft I started my career on in 1966 at the age of 20. I have retired - the aircraft hasn't.

Indeed they are. I spent 2 years flying them in and out of 3500' gravel strips in Northern Ontario. It was great experience and a fun airplane to fly. Wasaya has four aircraft in operation and there are just over a dozen flying both freight and passengers all across Northern Canada.

And they aren't the oldest large aircraft flying around the North!

So many remembrances. Nice to know about all those but the difficult part is finding Instructor pilots nowadays.

Spanner, like in your earlier attempt with Boeing 737, you need to contact the manufacturer. They have even a training department.....you may find friendly and professional help there. And they may also give you some details about the possible payload out of KTM...it will be close to 2.0 to....at the best.

My grandfarther was the senior Air Registration Board engineer and his signature released the aircraft to civil use. So knowing him I imagine it was engineered on the plus side of a slide rule and some. So I am not surprised it is still going strong, My only dealing with the HS748 was as a dispatcher for Gatwick Handling when Dan Air had a few. It was an intreresting site watching one start at night if you were behind the aircraft looking up the exhaust.

Enjoyed the Avro very much, we had two with the large cargo door and quick change pax interior. Was a more relaxed ops compared to passenger operations.
After all these years am a Freight Dog again flying the A330F, more relaxing than the A340 and 330 passenger operations I also do here in the Sand Pit.

West Air Sweden operates them still...

Strictly speaking West Air operate the ATP, which although essentially the same airframe (ATP is lengthened) and is really a first generation EFIS version of the 748. The ATP has Pratt and Whitneys rather than Rolls Royce Dart. A far more recent development than the original 748.

It's a bit of a British triumph really, especially when compared with the F27.
An aircraft constructed with a wry sense of humor as evidenced in the drill for radio crate failure. Used to have a lot of amusement with that when converting pilots onto the 748 down in Africa.

Can't believe how much hearing loss I got. Those Darts are noisy. Was a good excuse to ignore the missus when i was home.

I found this by accident Gabon Express 748 at work. It also goes on to show their Caravelle.

Does the drill mentioned involve the P1's sense of smell and a rubber bung perhaps?
